MEAC Announces Weekly Track & Field Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., April 14, 2021Coppin State senior Joseph Amoah was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today, while North Carolina A&T State graduate student TeJyrica Robinson was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Morgan State freshman Derick Robinson was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while North Carolina A&T State senior Loren James was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Amoah (Sr., Accra, Ghana) holds the top time in the nation in the men’s 100 meters after breaking his own school record in the event this past weekend at the Aggie Invitational. He ran a 10.00 to take gold in the event, and he also won the 200 meters at 20.36 – the seventh-fastest time in the nation – and the 4x100-meter relay.
 
Robinson (Gr., Quincy, Fla.) led Morgan State with a second-place finish in the long jump at the Aggie Invitational, leaping 7.26 meters – currently the second-longest distance in the conference so far this season.
 
Robinson (Fr., St. Thomas, Jamaica) is tied for sixth in the nation in the 100-meter hurdles after turning in a personal-best 12.97 in winning the event at the Aggie Invitational as the Aggies finished 1-2-3-4 in the race.
 
James (Sr., Baton Rouge, La.) set a new personal best in the shot put at the Aggie Invitational, coming in second in the event with a MEAC-best mark of 15.01 meters.
 
Other Top Performers
Latifa Ali (Coppin State) broke the school record in the 200 meters, running a 23.46 at the Aggie Invitational.
 
Jaylyn Scott (Florida A&M) ran a 51.38 to win the 400-meter hurdles at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, while also helping win the 4x400-meter relay and coming in fourth in the 200-meter dash.
 
Aaliyah Harris (Morgan State) was fourth in the 100 meters at the Aggie Invitational with a time of 11.89.
 
Kiara Grant (Norfolk State) won the 100-meter dash (11.29) and 200-meter dash (23.25) at the Gamecock Invitational, ranking tied for 15th in the nation in the 100 meters.
 
Azad Williams (Norfolk State) set a personal best in the shot put at 15.67 meters, finishing seventh at the Gamecock Invitational.
 
Trevor Stewart (North Carolina A&T State) won the 400 meters at the Aggie Invitational, running a 45.43 to rank ninth in the nation.
 
Matthew Swepson (North Carolina Central) was third in the shot put (12.72 meters) at the Aggie Invitational and fifth in the javelin throw (45.34 meters).
 
Devin Brewington (South Carolina State) was second in the 200 meters (20.70) and fifth in the 100 meters (10.55) at the Gamecock Invitational.
