NORFOLK, Va., March 31, 2021—
North Carolina A&T State senior Trevor Stewart was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today, while
North Carolina A&T State sophomore Cambrea Sturgis was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.
North Carolina Central senior Marvin Jones was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while
North Carolina A&T State junior Jasmine Jenkins was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Stewart (Sr., Lorton, Va.) anchored the Aggies’ 4x400-meter relay team that took gold at the Texas Relays this past weekend, turning in a 3:00.23 – the fastest time in the world this season. Stewart ran a 44.35 split in taking gold alongside Daniel Stokes, Randolph Ross and Elijah Young.
Sturgis (So., Kannapolis, N.C.) won the 200 meters and came in third in the 100 meters at the Texas Relays, and she currently ranks second in the nation in both events. She turned in a 22.87 in the 200 meters and completed the 100 meters in 11.21.
Jones (Sr., Hillsborough, N.C.) came in second in the high jump at the Raleigh Relays, leaping six feet, 8.76 inches (2.05 meters) to set the MEAC’s best mark so far this outdoor season. Jones also ranks tied for 51
st nationally in the high jump.
Jenkins (Jr., Raleigh, N.C.) won the hammer throw at the Weems Baskins Invitational, setting a MEAC-best mark with a distance of 171 feet, 1 inch (52.14 meters).
Other Top Performers
Latifa Ali (Coppin State) set new school records in the 100 meters, 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays at the Weems Baskins Invitational.
Amadou Ba (Coppin State) won the 800 meters (1:53.65) and 1,500 meters (4:03.61) at the Weems Baskins invitational.
Ja’Tae Joyner (Howard) was third in the triple jump at the Raleigh Relays with a mark of 12.27 meters.
Ayanna Henry (Morgan State) won the long jump at the Navy Spring Invite with a personal-best 19 feet, 2.5 inches (5.85 meters).
Kobe-Jordan Rhooms (Morgan State) was second in the long jump and tied for third in the high jump at the Navy Spring Invite.
Donnell Carter (North Carolina Central) ran a personal-best 47.46 to finish fourth in the 400 meters at the Raleigh Relays.
