NCAT's Ross, Wright Stay Top-10 Nationally at UCS Invite

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- 
North Carolina A&T State sophomore Randolph Ross moved into the top 10 nationwide in the men's 400 meters, and he notched a personal-best in the 200 meters as the Aggies indoor track & field teams completed the South Carolina Invitational at the Indoor Track and Field Complex at the University of South Carolina (USC) on Saturday. 

N.C. A&T's indoor teams combined for two wins, four second-place finishes and two third-place finishes. 

Among the winners was Ross, who finished the 400 in 45.79 to move to sixth nationally. Senior teammate Trevor Stewart finished behind him in second at 46-seconds flat. Senior Elijah Young placed fifth in 47.23. 

Senior Tavarius Wright posted the other win for N.C. A&T as he won the men's 60 meters with a personal-best 6.64. Wright moved into sixth place nationally in the 60. Ross ran a personal-best in the men's 200 as he finished second with a time of 20.64.

He is ranked fifth in the nation in the 200.

Grant Duo Posts Victories for NSU at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- 
Senior Kiara Grant and sophomore Kara Grant (no relation) both posted victories in their respective races Saturday to lead the way for the Spartan women's track and field team at the Brant Tolsma Invitational hosted by Liberty University.

Kiara Grant capped her stellar week by winning the 200 meters in a season-best 23.90 seconds. Five days earlier, she won the 60 and was runner-up in the 200 at the Virginia Beach Invitational.

The Spartans actually went 1-2 in the 200 meters on Saturday, as DaJah Parker-Love was runner-up in a season-best 24.39 seconds.

Kara Grant posted a convincing win in the 1,000 meters. She crossed the line in 3:04.73, nearly five seconds ahead of her closest competition.

Coppin State Breaks School Records at East Coast Invite

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- 
Latifa Ali won the 200-meter dash and shattered school records in both the 60 and 200 meters to lead the Coppin State women's track & field team at the East Coast Invitational on Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
 
A sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, Ali won the 200 in 24.01, breaking Melissa Caddle-Hope's six-year-old record of 24.18. Ali also finished fourth in the 60 meters in 7.36, besting Caddle-Hope once again.

On the men's side, Joseph Manu set a school record in the 60 meters and Amadou Ba won the 800 meters.

A junior from Accra, Ghana, Manu clocked a 6.66 in the 60, besting Joseph Amoah's old mark of 6.68 that he set last February.

Hornet Relay Teams Strong at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- 
Delaware State's Kyra Lyles posted a season best in the 400-meter dash and the Hornets' 4x400-meter relay team also recorded its fastest time of the season at Liberty University's Brant Tolsma Invitational this weekend.

Lyles was third overall in the 400 with a time of 57.69.

She was also a member of the relay team, along with Khaliyah White, Blair Daniel and Tai Brown that posted a season-best time of 4:04.02 to finish seventh overall in the competition.

On the men's side, the team of Julian Brown, Kalieta Thomas, Malachi Little and Nathanael Guy was first to the finish line with a time of 3:20.35, just ahead of second-place Charlotte at 3:21.26.
