NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 8, 2021—Delaware State sophomore Malachi Little was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola and Howard sophomore Kaya-Rae Dunbar were selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today. Morgan State senior Kobe-Jordan Rhooms was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Howard senior Diana Effiom earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Little (So., Newark, N.J.) is nationally ranked in two events after his performance this past weekend at the Fast Track Opener, in which he won the 200 meters with a 21.80 (which is eighth in the NCAA), and he was part of the Hornets’ 4x400 squad that set the 30th-fastest time in the nation at 3:19.64.
Dunbar (So., Burtonsville, Md.) leads the MEAC and ranks tied for seventh in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles after winning the event this past weekend at the Ivy & HBU Challenge with a time of 8.45.
Rhooms (Sr., Montego Bay, Jamaica) posted the top mark in both the MEAC and the nation this past weekend in the triple jump, leaping 15.91 meters (52 feet, 2.5 inches) to win the event at the Navy Invitational.
Effiom (Sr., Dallas, Texas) broke her own school record in the weight throw this past weekend at the Navy Invitational, setting a MEAC-best distance of 17.11 meters (56 feet, 1.75 inches), which ranks in the top 50 nationally.

Jeff Hammond (Coppin State) was fourth in the 60 meters at the Bill Ward Invitational after running a 6.92.
Erin Palmer (Coppin State) was third in the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.15 at the Bill Ward Invitational.
Lakendra Harpe (Delaware State) won the 400 meters with a 58.25 and helped the Hornets take 4x400 gold at the Fast Track Opener.
Jordyn Johnson (Delaware State) was second in the triple jump at the Fast Track Opener, leaping 11.15 meters.
Thomas White (Delaware State) won the triple jump at the Fast Track Opener with a mark of 14.34 meters.
Jermaine Byrd (Howard) is sixth in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles with a 7.98 this past weekend at the Ivy & HBCU Challenge.
Sean Wray (Howard) won the long jump with a mark of 7.29 meters at the Ivy & HBCU Challenge.
Aaliyah Harris (Morgan State) won the 60-meter dash (7.63) and was second in the 200-meter dash (personal-best 24.91) at the Navy Invitational.
Johnelle Johnson (Morgan State) was third in the weight throw at the Navy Invitational with a distance of 15.62 meters.
Kara Grant (Norfolk State) ran a 10:49.51 to win the 3,000-meter run at the KMS Opener.
Je’Shawn Walker (Norfolk State) ran a 4:29.64 to win the mile run at the KMS Opener.
Micah Fulton (North Carolina Central) went for 12.00 meters in the triple jump to finish second in the Winston-Salem College Kickoff.
Ariana Harrell (North Carolina Central) was third in the 600 meters and fourth in the 4x400-meter relay at the Winston-Salem College Kickoff.
Isaiah Hunter (North Carolina Central) helped the Eagles win the distance medley at the Winston-Salem College Kickoff and finish third in the 4x400-meter relay.
Marvin Jones (North Carolina Central) went 2.11 meters in the high jump to come in second at the Winston-Salem College Kickoff.
