NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 27, 2021—
North Carolina A&T State sophomore Randolph Ross was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today, while
North Carolina A&T State senior Delecia McDuffie was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.
North Carolina A&T State junior Brandon Hicklin was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while
Coppin State senior Alanna Newby was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Ross (So., Raleigh, N.C.) won both the 200-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay this past weekend at the Carolina Challenge. His 20.69 in the 200 meters not only broke the facility record, it’s also currently tied for the third-fastest time in the nation. He also helped set a new national best in the 4x400, as the Aggies turned in a 3:04.62 in taking the gold medal.
McDuffie (Sr., Aiken, S.C.) won the 400-meter dash and came in third in the 200 meters at the Carolina Challenge, establishing herself as one of the nation’s fastest in both races. Her 53.48 in the 400 meters is 11
th in the nation, and her 23.54 in the 200 meters is currently 16
th-fastest nationally.
Hicklin (Jr., Spartanburg, S.C.) came in second in the long jump at the Carolina Challenge, leaping 25 feet, 0.75 inches. That mark is currently the seventh-longest in the nation.
Newby (Sr., Bowie, Md.) finished fifth in the shot put this past weekend at the VMI Team Challenge, recording a distance of 41 feet, 10.75 inches.
Other Top Performers
Joseph Manu (Coppin State) won the 60 meters (6.80) and 200 meters (21.34) at the VMI Team Challenge.
Balvin Richards (Coppin State) was fourth in the shot put at VMI with a mark of 45 feet, 6.5 inches.
Shenelle Tomlinson (Coppin State) won the 400 meters (56.65) and the 4x400-meter relay (3:51.96) at VMI.
Nathanael Guy (Delaware State) won the 800 meters at the Liberty Elite Invitational, running a 1:51.91 in his collegiate debut.
Tre Johnson (Delaware State) was the top collegiate finisher in the triple jump at Liberty, coming in second overall with a mark of 48 feet, 3.25 inches.
Trequan Barnes (Norfolk State) set a new school record in the 500 meters at Liberty, coming in second in 1:02.82.
Malika Pride (Norfolk State) was second in both the 200 (24.39) and 500 meters (1:15.40) at Liberty.
