NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 25, 2021 – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), in partnership with Blaze Fire Games, has announced the formation of the MEAC Esports Community Board.
“Esports are transforming collegiate athletics through competitive gaming,” Rahim Booth, Director of Recreational Sports at Coppin State University and chair of the MEAC Esports Community Board, said. “MEAC Esports are empowering co-curricular learning communities via competitive gaming that enhances the student experience.”
The Esports Board consists of one representative from each of the MEAC’s 11 member institutions, with additional representatives serving on various committees. MEAC staff members and representatives from Blaze Fire Games and GYO will serve as liaisons.
The purpose of the board is to initiate operational policies and rules and regulations for intra-conference competition; provide consistency within the MEAC Esports Community; and provide direction and make decisions in the best interest of the community regarding competition, curriculum and career opportunities for students.

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) celebrates its 50th year of intercollegiate competition with the 2020-21 academic school year. Located in Norfolk, Va., the MEAC is made up of 11 outstanding historically black institutions across the Atlantic coastline: Bethune-Cookman University, Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Florida A&M University, Howard University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina Central University and South Carolina State University.
