Question: Where were you when the news dropped about all sports being canceled for the rest of the year?
Hasan Gill: I was in Miami during spring break when I heard the news about sports (being cancelled). I thought it was fake news until it started showing up everywhere on social media.
Q: After realizing the news was real, what was your first reaction?
HG: I was hurt and scared. It made the corona illness seem very troublesome.
Q: With you being in Miami where you concerned about contracting the virus
HG: Definitely. Crowds were the first thing I avoided.
Q: Did any of the coaches or leaders address the entire team after hearing about the cancellation of the season?
HG: Yeah, head coach (Stephen) Kimes was very informative with passing along info regarding classes, sports, staying on campus and the actual research on the virus. He made it a priority to make sure the whole team was addressed.
Q: Any concerns about the possibility of not being able to finish your classes this semester?
HG: A little bit. Communication with professors aren't always as good over an email compared to face to face interaction.
Q: With the growing possibility of not having a traditional graduation ceremony, how will you celebrate getting your degree?
HG: I graduate in December so hopefully it's cleared up by then but for my fellow seniors who graduate in May, I feel bad for them. Hopefully they can spend it while around family and friends if permitted to do so.
Q: When you do receive your degree, what career goals do you plan on achieving?
HG: I plan on working full time as either a software or optical engineer.
Q: What have you been doing to pass the time during the self-quarantine period?
HG: Home workouts everyday, school work and reading for the most part. I hop on the PlayStation every now and the
Q: Has any of your friends or family members contracted the virus?
HG: Luckily no.
NCAA has given all spring athletes an extra year of eligibility, do you plan on using it?
HG: I would like to but probably not. That'd require me to stay in school and I'm kind of ready to get started with my career, but Delaware state, I appreciate you. Every professor, teammate, coach, classmate and friend that I've come in contact with has made me the man I am today and I can't thank you enough for taking the country kid from Virginia in with welcoming arms and helping him leave a man ready to leave his mark on the world.
