MEAC Announces Weekly Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 12, 2020North Carolina Central junior Gordon Lewis was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today, while North Carolina A&T State sophomore Cambrea Sturgis was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. North Carolina Central junior Marvin Jones was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Delaware State senior Precious Igwebuike was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Lewis (Jr., Fredericksburg, Va.) set a new meet record in the 400 meters at the Camel City Invitational this past weekend, winning the gold medal after running a 48.61 – a time that currently ranks seventh in the conference. Lewis also ran a leg of the 4x400-meter relay that won with a time of 3:20.17, edging Troy by less than a second.
 
Sturgis (So., Kannapolis, N.C.) set a new personal best in the 200 meters at the South Carolina Invitational, tuning in a 23.06 to win the event and set the fourth-fastest time in the nation at that distance so far this season.
 
Jones (Jr., Hillsborough, N.C.) is tied for second in the MEAC in the men’s high jump after clearing 2.10 meters this past weekend. He matched his career-best mark with that jump and won the event – the second time this season he’s won gold in that event.
 
Igwebuike (Sr., Silver Springs, Md.) won the women’s pentathlon at the Frank Colden Invitational, racking up 3,060 points – the second-most in the conference so far this season. She won the long jump and 60-meter hurdle events, while coming in second in both the high jump and shot put.
 
Other Top Performers
Alanna Newby (CSU) was eighth in the shot put at the Albany Winter Classic with a mark of 12.89 meters.
 
Tatiana Ogundeko (CSU) broke her own school record in the mile run, clocking in at 5:02.97 at the Albany Winter Classic.
 
Michael Scott (CSU) was fifth in the long jump at the Albany Winter Classic, leaping 7.08 meters.
 
Randy Serville (CSU) won the 500 meters with a time of 1:04.32 at the Albany Winter Classic.
 
Gerald Amobi (DSU) ran a 1:57.65 to come in second in the 800 meters at the Frank Colden Invitational.
 
Tre Johnson (DSU) won the long jump at the Frank Colden Invitational, leaping 6.79 meters.
 
T’Keyah Macklin (DSU) ran a 7.84 in the 60 meters at the Frank Colden Invitational to win the event.
 
Gavin Williams (HOW) ran a 4:18.27 in the mile run, posting the MEAC’s fourth-fastest time this season.
 
Akeen Sirleaf (NCAT) came in second in the 200 meters at South Carolina, running a 21.03.
 
Aaron Wilkerson (NCAT) won the shot put at the Camel City Invitational with a mark of 16.69 meters.
 
Kenady Wilson (NCAT) tied for second in the high jump at the South Carolina Invitational at 1.70 meters.
 
Bhrandi Crenshaw (NCCU) came in second in the triple jump at the Camel City Invitational, leaping 12.30 meters.
 
Tamunoibi Dabipi (UMES) threw the shot put 17.34 meters.
 
Duvaire Wauchope (UMES) helped the Eagles win 4x400 gold with a time of 3:11.97.
