GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior North Carolina A&T State sprinter Trevor Stewart has been named to The Bowerman 2020 Preseason Watch List, the most prestigious honor in men's collegiate track & field, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Tuesday.

Stewart was one of 19 male track athletes from across the country nominated for the preseason list. He was one of 10 selected for the preseason list by The Bowerman Watch List Committee.

Others appearing on the first index of 2020 include Florida State's Trey Cunningham, Texas A&M's Devin Dixon, Kansas' Gle Dudarev, Georgia's Johannes Erm, South Carolina's Quincy Hall, LSU's JuVaughn Harrison, Wisconsin's Oliver Hoare, TCU's Chengetayi Mapaya and South Dakota's Chris Nilsen.

"Well deserved," N.C. A&T director of track and field programs Duane Ross said. "He had a huge year last year. I expect him to do greater things this season."

Stewart did have a magnificent 2019 during the indoor and outdoor seasons. During the indoor season, he helped the 4x400 meter relay team win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships at Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Md.

During outdoor, Stewart became a big name nationally. At the 2019 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at N.C. A&T's Irwin Belk Track, Stewart won the 400-meter championships by running a blazing 44.38. At the time, it was the 14th-fastest time in the world.

He qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships by running two sub-45 second 400's at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.

Stewart finished second nationally in the 400 by running a personal-best 44.25. He came away from the NCAA Championships with two First Team All-American honors as he helped the 4x400-meter relay team finish fifth nationally.

The Bowerman award is an annual track & field award that is the highest accolade given to the year's best student-athlete in American collegiate track and field. It is named after legendary Oregon track & field and cross country coach Bill Bowerman and is administered by the USTFCCCA.
