NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 8, 2020—
Howard sophomore Darian Clybrun was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today, while
Howard junior Ameenah Saalih was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.
Norfolk State freshman Anthony Giacchetta earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, while
Norfolk State sophomore Arieana Parker was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Clyburn (So., Louisville, Ky.) won the 60-meter hurdles at the Father Diamond Invitational, turning in a MEAC-best 8.03 – which currently ranks tied for 24
th in the nation.
Saalih (Jr., Willingboro, N.J.) set the MEAC’s best time in the 60 meters so far this season, winning gold at the Father Diamond Invitational with a time of 7.54. That time currently ranks ger tied for 24
th in the nation.
Giacchetta (Fr., Williamsburg, Va.) cleared 4.10 meters (13 feet, 5.25 inches) in the pole vault at the Father Diamond Invitational, winning the event and posting the conference’s best mark.
Parker (So., Smithfield, Va.) won the weight throw at the Father Diamond Invitational, recording a personal-best distance of 15.45 meters (50 feet, 8.25 inches). She currently ranks seventh in the MEAC in that event.
Other Top Performers
Nathaniel Are (HOW) won the triple jump at the Father Diamond Invitational, leaping 13.72 meters.
De’ja Dade (HOW) came in second in the high jump at the Father Diamond Invitational with a mark of 1.60 meters.
Savien Hayes (NSU) won the 400 meters at the Father Diamond Invitational with a time converted to 48.88 and was on the winning 4x400-meter relay team.
Malika Pride (NSU) set a personal best in the 500 meters at 1:13.77 in the Father Diamond Invitational, while also helping the 4x400-meter relay team win gold.
