Howard Has Strong Showing at Father Diamond Invite

FAIRFAX, Va. --
Howard junior sprinter Ameenah Saalih and sophomore thrower Diana Effiom headlined the Father Diamond Invitational, hosted by George Mason, with record-setting performances on Saturday.
 
On the track, Saalih won the women's 60-meter dash with a new school mark (7.54), breaking a tie of the previous record held by Phakiso Collins and LaClaire Carter at 7.61. In the field, Effiom continues her strong sophomore campaign with another record-setting effort, shattering her own mark set a month ago.
 
The Dallas native threw over 50 feet (15.38 meters) while placing fourth overall.

On the men's side, four Bison qualified for the 2020 MEAC Indoor Championships in Landover, Md.
 
In the men's 60-meter dash, newcomers Richard Ninamou, Goba Dan-Princewill and Ja'Leak Perry each made Landover in the preliminary round. Ninamou and Dan-Princewill clocked in at 6.94 apiece, while Perry recorded a 7.00 mark.

Norfolk State Resumes Indoor Schedule at Father Diamond Invite

FAIRFAX, Va. --
Malika Pride and Martha Bissah notched victories in their respective races as Norfolk State opened the 2020 portion of its indoor schedule on Saturday at the Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason.

Pride broke her PR in the 500 meters by three seconds, winning the event with a time of 1 minute, 13.77 seconds. Bissah, meanwhile, pulled away from the field for a comfortable win in the mile. Her winning time was 4 minutes, 48.67 seconds, 24 seconds ahead of runner-up and teammate Kara Grant, who was competing in her first track meet with the Spartans.

For the men, freshman Savien Hayes and junior Trequan Barnes both won an individual event and formed half of the Spartans' winning 4x400 meter relay team y at the Father Diamond Invitational.

Hayes won the 400 meters in a time of 49.66 seconds in his first meet as a Spartan. Barnes won the 500 meters in 1:04.68, and to cap the meet, the pair teamed with Kamil Jihad and Je'Shawn Walker to post a winning time of 3:24.71 in the 4x400.

In what was a strong showing for Norfolk State sprinters, Spartans also took second and third in the 200 meters. Sophomore Kai Cole was runner-up in 22.07 and junior Keith Brown was third in 22.16.
