Barnes Sets New School Record at 500 Meters in New York; Grant Posts Nation’s 200 Time at Great Dane Classic
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Junior Trequan Barnes set a new school record in the 500 meters at the Great Dane Classic to highlight the weekend for the Norfolk State men in the Empire State.
Junior Kiara Grant ran the fastest 200-meter time in the country on Saturday in her first race of the season at that distance at the Great Dane Classic. Grant cruised to the win in a new Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex facility record time of 23.25, which also ranks as the second-fastest time in the world this year. It broke her previous indoor personal record by more than a second and puts her atop the Div. I leaderboard.

Akobundu Wins Long Jump, Aggies Dominate Women’s 60; Sturgis, Mitchell Break Records
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The men and women's indoor track and field teams were back competing on Friday after more than a month away from competition. The Aggies came away with a win in the women's long jump, while dominating the women's 60 meters and having an impressive showing in the men's distance medley relay at the Jim Green Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky at Nutter Field House on Friday.
Saturday saw Cambrea Sturgis set a meet record with a time of 7.15 in the 60 meters, leading a crop of five Aggies in the final of that race. On the men's side, Jaylan Mitchell set a new meet record in the 60 meters after running a 6.66.

Delaware State Returns to Action with a Fourth Place Finish
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- After a month off, Delaware State returned to action and finished in fourth place at the HBCU Armory Track & Field Center Friday night. Tre Johnson led the way for the Hornets, finishing in first place at 14.99 meters in the Triple Jump. Elijah Mclaren finished second with a mark of 14.13 meters. Thomas White (13.98m) and Karim Beatty (13.51m) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
White also finished second in the high jump with a mark of 1.80 meters.
The Lady Hornets placed second in the meet. Grad student Katarzyna Rosikon led the way, earning the team's only first-place finish with her time of 11:46.81 in the 3,000 meters, 17 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Rosikon also finishes in eighth in the mile run with a time of 6:02.21.

Morgan State Opens 2020 with Runner-Up Finish at HBCU Battle; Rose Captures Gold
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Morgan State men opened the 2020 portion of their schedule Friday night at the Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) Battle at the Armory Track and Field Center. The Bears had 13 top-5 finishes, including three event champions to help Morgan State secure a second-place finish with 105 points.
The Lady Bears finished in a tie with Delaware State for second with 70 points. Howard won the event with a total of 198 points, while Coppin State (68.5) and Maryland Eastern Shore (64.5) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Coppin Men Take Fifth, Women Fourth at Season-Opening HBCU Battle
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Coppin State's men's track & field team opened its season at the HBCU Battle and got individual victories from Aaron Lewis and Theodore Westcarr on Friday afternoon at The Armory. The Eagles finished fifth of 13 schools on the day.
Tre’J Johnson won both horizontal jumps while Tatiana Ogundeko and Destinee Mcleod also took individual events to lead the Coppin State women to a fourth-place finish at the HBCU Battle. Setting personal records in both events, Johnson leaped 5.74 meters (18-10) in the long jump and 11.87 meters (38-11.5) in the triple jump to earn the gold. In her collegiate debut, McLeod won the 500 meters with a time of 1:22.06.

Williams Leads Bison with Record-Setting Performance
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Second-year runner Gavin Williams led the Howard men to a victory at the 2020 HBCU Battle, thanks to a pair of individual victories, including a record-setting performance.
The Howard woman also won the 2020 HBCU Battle with an all-around dominating team performance. The Bison produced 198 points while outscoring the runner-up, Delaware State, 70.

Williams, Nichols Shine for Bethune-Cookman at UAB
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Alabama was a sweet home for Jordan Williams this past weekend as the Bethune-Cookman senior posted two nationally-ranked marks in his three event victories at the UAB Blazer Invitational and UAB Vulcan Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Williams' Saturday times in the 400 meters (47.55) and 200 (21.41) placed him ninth and 12
th in the nation, according to
tfrrs.org. Williams also registered a 300-meter victory with a personal record of 33.5.
Monae Nichols and Marc McCoy each delivered a top-30 triple jump mark, with McCoy's leap of 49'6 ¼" and Nichols' 40' 1 ¼ placing 27

th, respectively.

Maryland Eastern Shore Competes in HBCU Battle
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Maryland Eastern Shore traveled to New York to participate in the HBCU Battle on Friday. The men placed third in the meet, while the women placed fifth.
On the track, the Hawks had two runners win their event. Freshman Mahki Herring won the 60 meters with a time of 7.13. Senior Johnathan Robertson took the title in the 500 meters after running a 1:05.52.
