NORFOLK, Va., April 10, 2019—
South Carolina State senior Tyrell Richard was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today, while
Bethune-Cookman graduate student Deja Davis was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.
Norfolk State junior Jacob Milton earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, while
Bethune-Cookman sophomore Monae Nichols was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Richard (Sr., Georgetown, S.C.) turned in the world’s fastest time in the 400 meters this past weekend at the North Florida Invitational, winning the race in 44.81. The 2019 NCAA indoor champion in the 400 meters also set a new facility record with that time – the second-fastest of his career.
Davis (Gr., Des Moines, Iowa) set the MEAC’s fastest time in the 5,000 meters at the North Florida Invitational this past weekend, winning gold in the event after turning in a 17:44.52. Her time is currently the fastest in the conference by more than three seconds.
Milton (Jr., Stuttgart, Germany) won the high jump at the Colonial Relays this past weekend for the third year in a row, clearing a mark of 2.07 meters (six feet, 9.5 inches). He currently leads the MEAC and ranks tied for 36
th in Div. I in that event.
Nichols (So., Lakeland, Fla.) leaped 6.06 meters (19 feet, 10.75 inches) to win gold in the long jump at the North Florida Invitational this past weekend, marking just the third performance of six meters or more in the event in the MEAC so far this season. Nichols currently ranks tied for 17
th in the nation in the long jump.

Carlin Berryhill (b-CU) set a MEAC-best time in the 1,500 meters at 3:54.93, finishing third at the North Florida Invitational.
Dominic Harper (B-CU) leaped 4.30 meters in the pole vault at the North Florida Invitational, setting a new MEAC best.
Mekhi Abbott (HOW) set a new MEAC best in the javelin throw, finishing second at Towson with a mark of 51.63 meters.
Tamunoibi Dabipi (MDES) came in fifth in the discus throw at Towson, tossing it 44.95 meters.
Naomi English (MDES) came in second in the long jump at Towson with a distance of 5.64 meters.
Chisom Onukwugha (MDES) qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 110-meter hurdles at Towson, finishing fourth in 14.78.
Neus Quinonero (MDES) ranks fourth in the MEAC in the 800 meters after winning the event at Towson this past weekend with a 2:12.28.
Dinedye Denis (MSU) won the 200 meters at 24.62 at Towson, while also finishing third in the 100 meters with a 12.13.
Brandon James (MSU) won the 200 meters and came in second in the 100 meters at the Towson Invitational.
Alantra Mines (MSU) won the triple jump at Towson with a mark of 12.1 meters, fifth-best in the MEAC.
Kamaya Debose-Epps (NCAT) won the 100 meters (11.91) and 200 meters (24.59) at Elon.
Joshua Faison (NCAT) won the discus throw at Elon with a distance of 45.70 meters.
Kemarni Mighty (NCAT) took the 400 meters at Elon with a time of 48.40.
Evans Cheruiyot (NSU) ran a MEAC-best and personal-record 30:14.01 in the 10,000 meters at the Colonial Relays.
Tiara Simms (NSU) set a new personal best in the shot put, coming in second at the Colonial Relays with a mark of 12.90 meters.
