NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 6, 2019—Coppin State junior Joseph Amoah was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s track Athlete of the Week, presented by the U.S. Marines, the conference office announced today, while
Norfolk State junior Martha Bissah and
North Carolina A&T State senior Kayla White were selected as Women’s Track Co-Athletes of the Week.
Norfolk State junior Jacob Milton earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, while
North Carolina A&T State sophomore Loren James was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Amoah (Jr., Greater Accra, Ghana) turned in the 14th-fastest time in the nation in the 200-meter dash this past weekend in the Boston University Scarlet & White Invitational, winning the race with a 20.90. That time currently ranks as the second-fastest in the conference.
Bissah (Jr., Accra, Ghana) shined in the Camel City Elite Invitational on Saturday, turning in what became the nation’s fastest time in the 800 meters. Her time, converted to a MEAC-record 2:02.58 for track size, is tops among all Div. I runners, and she was top collegiate runner in a race that featured professional, collegiate and high school runners. She was the top collegiate runner and sixth overall.
White (Sr., Miami, Fla.) won a pair of titles at the Carolina Challenge this past weekend, turning in times that rank top five nationally and lead the MEAC in both the 200-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles. She turned in a 23.03 to win the 200 meters, ranking fourth in the nation, and the 8.07 she ran in winning the 60 hurdles is also fourth-best in Div. I.
Milton (Jr., Stuttgart, Germany) set a new indoor personal best in the high jump at the Liberty Invitational, leaping seven feet, 1.25 inches (2.18 meters) to come in second overall. He still leads the MEAC in the high jump, and his mark is now 19th-best in all of Div. I.
James (So., Baton Rouge, La.) won the shot put and came in third in the weight throw this past weekend at the Camel City Invitational. In taking gold in the shot put, she set a new MEAC-best mark at 14.47 meters, and her distance of 17.26 meters in the weight throw currently ranks fourth in the conference.

Carlin Berryhill (B-CU) came in sixth in the mile run at the Carolina Challenge at 4:13.73.
Deja Davis (B-CU) set the MEAC’s best time in the 5,000 meters with a 17:50.04, finishing fourth in the race.
JaiQan Earls (B-CU) won the triple jump at the Carolina Challenge with a mark of 14.94 meters.
Monae Nichols (B-CU) came in second in the pentathlon at the Carolina Challenge, setting a MEAC best with 3,381 points.
Jessika Gbai (HOW) won the 200-meter dash at the Liberty Invitational, running in a 24.54.
Aariq Nixon (HOW) set a personal best in the 800 meters, coming in fourth with a time of 1:56.10 at the Liberty Invitational.
Ayanna Henry (MSU) was second in the triple jump in the Villanova Invitational with a distance of 11.59 meters.
Infinnatie Rowe (MSU) came in second in the 400 meters at Villanova with a time of 56.65.
Regan Kimtai (NCAT) broke the school record in the mile run, finishing second with a MEAC-best 4:11.82.
Derrick Wheeler (NCAT) set a new school record in the weight throw at 19.51 meters, tops in the MEAC.
Trequan Barnes (NSU) set a new personal best in the 200 meters, winning his race with a time of 21.38.
