North Carolina A&T State Men Dominate to Another indoor Title

LANDOVER, Md., Feb. 23, 2019—
For the third straight year, North Carolina A&T State is atop the track & field mountain in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), as the Aggies had a record afternoon on Saturday in the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex.
 
NCAT racked up a meet-record 191 points to claim the crown, 50 points more than second-place Bethune-Cookman.
 
With the team title, North Carolina A&T State becomes the first MEAC program ever to sweep the men’s and women’s indoor titles three seasons in a row.
 
Duane Ross was again named the meet’s Outstanding Coach.
 
Freshman Regan Kimtai took home Outstanding Runner honors after winning three gold medals – two of which came on Saturday. In addition to his 5,000-meter title on Thursday, Kimtai won the mile run with a time of 4:20.32 on Saturday – before turning in a 1:53.42 to take the 800 meters.
 
Rodney Rowe had a pair of titles for the Aggies on Saturday, running a 6.72 to take the 60 meters and a 21.42 to win gold in the 200 meters.
 
Michael Dickson also got in on the act, running a 7.88 to take gold in the men’s 60-meter hurdles.
 
The Aggies also set a MEAC championship record in winning the 4x400-meter relay, capping off the afternoon with a 3:10.05.
 
Lasheon Strozier gave the Aggies a victory in the men’s triple jump, leaping 49 feet, 2.5 inches.
 
South Carolina State’s Tyrell Richard, who came into the weekend ranked second in the nation in the 400 meters, won that event with a MEAC championship-record 46.62. Carlin Berryhill of Bethune-Cookman also won an individual title on Saturday, taking the 3,000 meters in 8:39.31.
 
NCAT’s Aaron Wilkerson and Bethune-Cookman’s Jeremiah Peters and JaiQuan Evans were each named Outstanding Field Performers. Peters won the men’s shot put on Saturday with a mark of 54 feet, 4 inches.
 
Dominic Harper, also of Bethune-Cookman, won the pole vault at 15 feet, 5 inches.
 
The top three finishers in each event earned All-MEAC honors.
