North Carolina A&T State Again Wins Women's Indoor Track Title

Final Results

LANDOVER, Md., Feb. 23, 2019—
The North Carolina A&T State women are once again the talk of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) following their third consecutive indoor track & field title on Saturday at the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex.

NCAT racked up 174 points to claim the crown, while second-place Florida A&M tallied 118.5 points.

With the team title, North Carolina A&T State becomes the first MEAC program ever to sweep the men’s and women’s indoor titles three seasons in a row.

Duane Ross was again named the meet’s Outstanding Coach.

Senior Kayla White, who came into the meet as the world leader in the 200 meters, backed that up by winning the event with a time of 23.53. She also took gold in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday with a MEAC-record 8.07 – on top of finishing second in the 60-meter dash.

She was named the meet’s Outstanding Runner.

But White was far from the only Aggie to shine on Saturday. Loren James gave NCAT’s women their first title of the day in winning the shot put with a mark of 48 feet, 8.5 inches – and Sun-Sara Williams took gold in the 400 meters at 56.03.

The Aggies also took gold in the women’s 4x400-meter relay on Saturday, turning in a 3:42.23.

Monae Nichols of Bethune-Cookman, who was strong on Thursday and Friday, was named Outstanding Field Performer.

Florida A&M’s Jazmyn Dennis broke the MEAC record in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 0.25 inches to take the gold medal. Bhrandi Crenshaw of North Carolina Central also won a field event on Saturday, leaping 41 feet, 1.5 inches to take the triple jump.

Norfolk State’s Kiara Grant was the only thing that kept White from winning all of her events on Saturday, claiming gold in the 60 meters with a time of 7.22.

Martha Bissah was also strong for the Spartans; the 2017 and 2018 Outstanding Runner claimed two titles on Saturday – winning the mile with a time of 4:55.56 before running a 2:07.16 to win the 800 meters.

Bethune-Cookman’s Deja Davis, a senior, closed out her MEAC indoor career with a gold medal, winning the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:08.82.

The top three finishers in each event earned All-MEAC honors.
