MEAC Announces Weekly Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 9, 2019—Delaware State sophomore Julian Brown and Howard sophomore Jessika Gbai were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Track Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced today. Delaware State sophomore Tre’ Johnson earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, while Howard sophomore Kaylah Clark was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Brown (So., Wilmington, Del.) shined in the Wagner College Invitational this past Friday, winning gold in the 400-meter dash with a 48.72. He qualified for the IC4A Indoor Championships with that time, which ranks second in the MEAC and tied for 20th in the nation. Brown also ran the first leg of the Hornets’ gold medal-winning 4x400-meter relay team, which turned in a 3:18.39.
 
Gbai (So., Philadelphia, Pa.) qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships in the 60-meter dash at the Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason on Saturday, turning in a 7.69 to finish third. She currently holds the MEAC’s fifth-best time in that event, and she also came in third in the 400-meter dash after running a 1:00.74.
 
Johnson (So., Smyrna, Del.) won the men’s triple jump at the Wagner College Invitational, leaping 14.78 meters (48 feet, six inches) to take gold and qualify for the IC4A Indoor Championships. He currently holds the second-best triple jump mark in the conference, and he ranks 25th in the nation.
 
Clark (So., Miami, Fla.) came in fourth in the women’s shot put at the Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason, tossing the implement 12.50 meters (41 feet, 0.25 inches) – a mark that is currently the fourth-best in the MEAC. Clark also finished fourth in the weight throw at 13.95 meters (45 feet, 9.25 inches).

came in fourth in the triple jump at the Father Diamond Invitational, jumping 12.88 meters (42 feet, three inches).
 
Ashton Daniel (HOW) tied for third in the 60-meter dash at the Father Diamond Invitational with a 6.95.
