MEAC Announces Weekly Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 30, 2019—Norfolk State sophomore Trequan Barnes and junior Martha Bissah were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Track Athletes of the Week, presented by the U.S. Marines, the conference office announced today. Bethune-Cookman senior Jeremiah Peters earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, while Bethune-Cookman senior Quamecha Morrison was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Barnes (So., Winston-Salem, N.C.) set a new school record in the 400-meter dash at the Penn State National this past weekend, running a MEAC-best 46.17 to come in second in the event. That time is currently the fourth-fastest in the nation in that event.
 
Bissah (Jr., Accra, Ghana) recorded the fourth-fastest time in the nation in the 800-meter run at the Penn State National, recording a new personal indoor best and MEAC-leading 2:04.27. She placed second in the event.
 
Peters (Sr., Cleveland, Ohio) won both the shot put and the weight throw at the JDL College Meet Madness this past weekend. His distance of 17.20 meters (56 feet, 5.25 inches) in the shot put is the best in the MEAC, and he currently ranks second in the conference in the weight throw at 16.47 meters (54 feet, 0.5 inches).
 
Morrison (Sr., Beaufort, S.C.)
won the high jump at the JDL College Meet Madness, leaping a MEAC-best 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10.75 inches), which is also tied for the ninth-best high jump mark in the nation. She also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.07.

Carlin Berryhill (B-CU)
won the 3,000-meter run at the JDL College Meet Madness with an 8:43.83.
 
Monae Nichols (B-CU) won the 60-meter hurdles at the JDL College Meet Madness with a time of 8.58.
 
Aaron Lewis (CSU) was second in the 60-meter hurdles at the Penn State National after running a school record-tying 7.78.
 
Gerald Amobi (DSU) won the 600-meter run at the Captains Invitational, running a 1:25.41.
 
Robert Duncan (DSU) won the weight throw at the Captains Invitational with a mark of 15.98 meters.
 
Ahnrea McCaskill (DSU) won the high jump at the Captains Invitational, leaping 1.56 meters.
 
Nathaniel Are (HOW) set a personal best in the triple jump at the Penn State National at 13.56 meters.
 
Kenneth Chigbue (HOW) ran a personal-best 22.16 in the 200-meter dash at the Penn State National.
 
Diana Effiom (HOW) set a new personal best in the weight throw at 14.79 meters.
 
Destiny Stanford (HOW) set a MEAC best in the mile run at 5:07.38.
 
Luan Gabriel (MDES) ran the eight-fastest time in the MEAC in the 400-meter dash with a 57.22 at the Liberty Kickoff.
 
Atinuke Shittu (MDES) was eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.43 meters.
 
Annastacia Barham (MSU) won the 200-meter dash at the Navy Invitational with a 24.75.
 
Keon Rantin (MSU) set a personal best in winning the 200-meter dash at 21.33.
 
Kobe-Jordan Rhooms (MSU) won both the long jump and the triple jump at the Navy Invitational.
 
Bethany White (NCCU) won both the 60-meter dash (7.48) and 200-meter dash (24.31) at the Liberty Kickoff.
