MEAC Track & Field: Favorites Starting to Emerge

There is roughly one month until the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships, and standout student-athletes are beginning to emerge.

Heading into the final weekend of January, the North Carolina A&T State men rank 24th in the nation, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) computer rankings. The Aggies are also ranked second in the Southeast Region, ahead of Norfolk State (18th) and South Carolina State (19th).

The NCAT women are sixth in the Southeast Region.

Rodney Rowe of North Carolina A&T State was named MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week after his strong performance this past weekend at the Hokie Invitational, setting MEAC bests in both the 60- and 200-meter dash races. Norfolk State's Jacob Milton was the Men's Field Athlete of the Week, winning the high jump at the KeyDet Invitational and setting a new MEAC best.

On the women's side, North Carolina A&T State freshman Cambrea Sturgis was named Track Athlete of the Week for her record-setting performance in the 200-meter dash at the Hokie Invitational, and Bethune-Cookman's Monae Nichols was the Field Athlete of the Week after winning the long jump at the Gamecock Inaugural.
