NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 23, 2019—North Carolina A&T State senior Rodney Rowe and
freshman Cambrea Sturgis were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Track Athletes of the Week presented by th U.S. Marines, the conference office announced today.
Norfolk State junior Jacob Milton earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, while
Bethune-Cookman sophomore Monae Nichols was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Rowe (Sr., Clayton, N.C.) had another stellar weekend in Blacksburg, Va., setting conference bests in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the Hokie Invitational. He ran a 21.11 to win the 200-meter dash (and ranked tied for 17th in the nation) and his 6.69 in the 60-meter dash was good enough for second – and currently ties Rowe for 20th in the nation.
Sturgis (Fr., Kannapolis, N.C.) broke the school record in the 200-meter dash at the Hokie Invitational, winning the event with a time of 23.43. That is currently the best time in the MEAC and tied for the eighth-fastest time in the 200-meter dash in the nation.
Milton (Jr., Stuttgart, Germany) bettered his own MEAC-best mark in the high jump at the VMI KeyDet Invitational, leaping seven feet, 0.5 inches (2.15 meters) to take gold. That mark is currently tied for 20th among all Div. I high jumpers.
Nichols (So., Lakeland, Fla.) set a conference best in the long jump at the Gamecock Inaugural over the weekend, leaping 5.96 meters (19 feet, 6.75 inches) to take gold. She was also part of the Lady Wildcats’ 4x400-meter relay squad that came in fifth place.
Other Top Performers
Deja Davis (B-CU) came in sixth in the 5,000 meters (18:20.60) at the Gamecock Inaugural.
Jeremiah Peters (B-CU) came in fourth in the shot put with a MEAC-best mark of 16.68 meters.
Jordan Williams (B-CU) was second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 400-meter dash at the Gamecock Inaugural.
Nazah Reddick (NCAT) was second in the high jump at the Hokie Invitational with a distance of 1.68 meters.
Martha Bissah (NSU) won the 1,000 meters (2:45.52) and the 400-meter dash (56.43) at the VMI KeyDet Invitational.
Meshack Kipchirchir (NSU) won the 5,000 meters with a MEAC-best 15:07.70 at the VMI KeyDet Invitational.
