With their individual opportunities extinguished, it was going to take a team effort for Bethune-Cookman to send more people to the NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Well, you know what they say about team work, and in this case, the dream will be working in two weeks at Track Town in Eugene, Oregon.

The Wildcats qualified two relay teams -- the women's 4X100 and the men's 4X400 -- to the national meet Saturday with top 12 finishes Saturday at the East Preliminary at the University of South Florida.

Coppin State's Aaron Lewis (110m hurdles) and Joseph Amoah (200m dash) qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 6-9 at Hayward Field.

Jamari Smith finished 18th in the quarterfinals of the 400 while freshman Taylor Gorum placed 23rd in the discus. 
 
Hampton

On the final day of the 2018 NCAA Track and Field  East Regional on the campus of the University of South Florida saw the men's 4x400  relay team take the track aiming to qualify for nationals on Saturday.

The group of Brenan Garrett, Jerrick PowellJustin Beatty and Jaelen Williams ran 3:10.12 to finish sixth in their heat and did not qualify for nationals.

Howard University sophomore hurdler Uchechi Onuoha set a new personal best at the NCAA Preliminary East Round Women's 400-meter Hurdle Quarterfinals but fell short in reaching Oregon for the championship round.
 
The Pennsylvania native ended her sophomore campaign on a high note, eclipsing a season-best 58.02.

Maryland Eastern Shore

Maryland Eastern Shore senior Oussama Chouati (Manresa, Spain) completed his Hawk career with the running of the NCAA Eastern Preliminaries on Friday (May 25).

Chouati competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase during the first heat. Overall he placed 41st with a time of 9:21.02.  For his heat he placed 12th, with his fastest lap of 1:15.95 coming in his fourth go around.

The 2018 collegiate season came to an end for Morgan State's Annastacia Barham and Lloyd Hylton Thursday afternoon on the opening day of the NCAA Track & Field Championships East Preliminary Round.

Norfolk State
Norfolk State high jumpers Jacob Milton and Garth Warner saw their sophomore track and field seasons come to an end Saturday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round hosted by the University of South Florida.

Milton and Warner both cleared 6 feet, 9 inches, tying for 28th place out of the 48 high jump competitors who advanced to the regional. Only the top 12 advance to the NCAA Outdoor National Championships at Oregon next month.

North Carolina A&T State

North Carolina A&T spent the final day of the 2018 NCAA East Preliminary Round at USF Track & Field Stadium adding to their NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship qualifying totals. Junior men’s sprinter Rodney Rowe and junior women’s jumper Anisa Toppin led the way on Saturday. Once again, N.C. A&T will have strong representation in the relays in Eugene. Rowe is back at nationals in the 4x100. This year he will be joined by senior Joel Thomas, junior Michael Dickson and freshman Michael Bell as the quartet placed seventh on Saturday in 39.21.

North Carolina Central University junior sprinter Bethany White advanced to the regional final of the women's 100-meter dash at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Championships, hosted by the University of South Florida in Tampa on May 24-26.
 
White, a native of Gaithersburg, Maryland, qualified for the 100m dash regional final by placing second in the fifth heat of Thursday's first round run with a time of 11.33 seconds. During Friday's regional final, White suffered a leg injury and crossed the finish line in 11.91 seconds, which was not fast enough to advance to the national semifinals in Oregon. The injury also forced White to withdraw from first-round action in the 200m dash.

Sophomore Abbas Abbkar of the Savannah State University men's track team set his own school record and narrowly missed out on advancing at the National Collegiate Athletics Association East Preliminary round at the USF Track & Field Stadium Thursday.

South Carolina State

South Carolina State sprinter Tyrell Richard won his 400-meter heat in a time of 45.48 Friday to advance to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship set for Eugene, Ore. June 6-9, becoming the first Bulldog to earn a trip to the prestigious meet in 14 seasons.

The Georgetown, S.C. sophomore, running in lane six, overtook the field in the final 150 meters, automatically qualify for his chance at glory in Eugene where he will be among 24 student-athletes from across the nation vying for the 400-meter title.
