FRIDAY SCHEDULE


Bethune-Cookman

Jordan WilliamsJonathan Moore and Christopher Jackson advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Track And Field East Preliminary Thursday at the University of South Florida.

Williams (45.97) finished second in his 400 meter heat, as did Moore (1:48.58) in his 800 meter to earn berths in Friday's quarterfinals while Jackson advanced on his 800 meter time of 1:49.23. To advance to the NCAA Outdoor National Championships June 3-6 in Eugene, a top three heat finish or three fastest times after that is needed.
Coppin State
 
Coppin State's Joseph Amoah ran the ninth-fastest time of the First Round of the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Round in the 100m Dash on Thursday afternoon to qualify for Friday's Quarterfinal at USF Track & Field Stadium. 

Florida A&M
 
Freshman Taylor Gorum competes in the discus and shot put on Friday and Saturday. Men's sprinter Jamari Smith ran a 46.3 in the 400 to advance to Friday's quarterfinal.
 
Hampton
In day one of the 2018 NCAA East Regionals held at the University of South Florida, Hampton had two advance to quarterfinal rounds on Friday.
 
Sophomore Jaelen Williams ran a personal best 49.97 in the 400 hurdles to have the second best time heading into Friday's 2:30 pm quarterfinals.  He only trailed Kenny Selmon from North Carolina (48.98) heading into Friday's races. 
 
Williams runs in the third heat on Friday and has to finish in the top three in his heat or have one of the next three best times to earn his spot in Eugene, Oregon at the NCAA Championships.
 
Junior Tayvon Burris also advanced to the quarterfinals in the 800 meter run after a personal best 1:49.02 on Thursday.   His time was one of the next six best times as he finished fourth in his qualifying heat.  Burris enjoys running in Florida as his previous season best was at the Florida Relays in late March running 1:49.99.

HAMPTON RECAP
Howard
In the round of 48, Howard University sophomore hurdler Uchechi Onuoha moved a step closer to reaching Eugene, Ore. as she qualified for the women's 400-meter hurdle quarterfinals at the NCAA Preliminary East Round in Tampa, Fla. Dominique Cleggett also competed in the high jump Thuraday evening.

Maryland Eastern Shore
The last student-athlete competing for Maryland Eastern Shore in 2017-18 is track & field senior Oussama Chouati (Manresa, Spain). He will run the 3000 meter steeplechase at the NCAA East Preliminaries Friday.

Morgan State
The 2018 collegiate season came to an end for Morgan State's Annastacia Barham and Lloyd Hylton Thursday afternoon on the opening day of the NCAA Track & Field Championships East Preliminary Round.

Norfolk State
Norfolk State sophomores Jaylen Banks and Martha Bissah both placed among the top 24 in the opening rounds of their respective races Thursday to advance at the NCAA East Preliminary Round hosted by the University of South Florida.

North Carolina A&T State
North Carolina A&T track and field (men and women) sent a school-record 24 qualifiers to the NCAA East Preliminary Championships at the University of South Florida. They advanced four to the quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at USF Track & Field Stadium. The Aggies sent 19 a season ago to the East Regionals and 18 back in 2009.

Bethany White moved on to the quarterfinals in the 100 and will also compete in the 200 on Friday while Bhrandi Crenshaw competed in the high jump Thursday and will compete in the triple jump Friday. Gordon Lewis ran in the 400 this afternoon and competes in the 200 on Friday.

Savannah State
Sophomore Abbas Abbkar of the Savannah State University men's track team set his own school record and narrowly missed out on advancing at the National Collegiate Athletics Association East Preliminary round at the USF Track & Field Stadium Thursday.

South Carolina State
Two of three members of the South Carolina State track and field team that were in action Thursday at the NCAA Div. 1 Track and Field East Preliminary Round advanced, earning a spot in Friday's quarterfinals with a trip to the NCAA Finals at Eugene, OR Jun. 6-9 at stake.

Advancing to the quarterfinals for Coach Tim Langford's Bulldog squad were sprinters Tyrell Richard and Demek Kemp. Bulldog long jumper Daniel Seawright, an Orangeburg native and Edisto High graduate, failed to move on, fouling on all three of his jumps.
