NORFOLK, Va. - Demek Kemp of
South Carolina State and
Martha Bissah of Norfolk State were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Men's and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, the conference announced today.
Morgan State’s Kobe-Jordan Rhooms was named the MEAC Men’s Field Performer of the Week while
North Carolina Central’s Bhrandi Crenshaw and
Hampton’s Kaitlin Scott shared Co-MEAC Women’s Field Performers of the Week honors.
Kemp (So., Monroe, Ga.) won the 100-meter dash in a school-record time of 10.15 at the University of South Carolina Open while also placing second in the 200 with a time of 20.55. Kemp ranks 12th nationally in the 100 while holding the 14
th-fastest time in the 200 nationally. He also helped the 4x100-meter relay team place second overall in addition to competing on the mile relay squad which posted its best mark of the season.
Bissah (So., Accra, Ghana) posted another collegiate-best for the second consecutive weekend as she placed first in the 1,500-meter run at the Virginia State Trojan Invite with a time of 4:25.89. She dominated the field as she finished 17 seconds ahead of the closest competitor as her time is the MEAC’s best at this point of the season.
Jordan Rhooms (Fr., Montego Bay, Jamaica) won the triple jump at the Duke Invitational as he jumped a length of 49-7.25 feet. The mark was also a personal best for him in the event.
Crenshaw (Fr., Alexandria, Va.) won the triple jump at the Duke Invitational with a personal-best leap of 41-7.5. Her mark broke a meet record and currently ranks second in the MEAC as this marks her third victory in the event this season.
Scott (Jr., Richmond, Va.) won the heptathlon at the New Captains Classic & Combined Events as she compiled a MEAC-best score of 4,531 points. She won first place in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump and shot put while placing third in the 200 and 800-meter dashes.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS (men)
Oussama Chouati (Maryland Eastern Shore) placed fourth in the 800 and also competed in the 5,000-meter run at the New Captains Classic & Combined Events.
Kenneth Chigbue (Howard) set a personal best time of 21.88 in the 200 at the Larry Ellis Invitational and guided the mile relay squad to a season-best time.
Robert Duncan (Delaware State) set the MEAC’s top mark (158-4) while competing in the discus at the New Captains Classic & Combined Events. His mark was also a personal best in the event.
Malik Franklin (Savannah State) placed fourth in both the triple jump (49-5.5) and long jump (23-4) at the Duke Invitational.
Kequan Henley (Norfolk State) cleared a personal-best 6-6.75 to win the high jump at the Virginia State Trojan Invitational.
Bill Kemboi (Norfolk State) won the 10,000 meters in the third-fastest time of any MEAC runner this year at the Virginia State Trojan Invitational (31:20.80).
Wesley Kirui (Hampton) is ranked 19th nationally in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after placing third overall at the Virginia Challenge in a time of 8:51.
Robert Miller (North Carolina A&T State) posted the fourth-fastest time in the MEAC (14.16) while competing in the 110-meter hurdles at the Duke Invitational.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS (women)
Annastacia Barham (Morgan State) finished fourth in the 200 in a personal-best time of 24.18 while also leading the mile relay team to a season-best mark of 3:41.46. The mile relay’s time currently ranks second in the MEAC.
Kristoni Barnes (North Carolina A&T State) ran the MEAC’s second-fastest time and logged a personal-best in the 800 (2:08.8) at the Duke Invitational.
Dominique Cleggett (Howard) placed fourth in the long jump at the Larry Ellis Invitational as she tied her career-best mark of 19-5. She also earned qualification to the IC4A/ECAC Championships in the event.
Luan Gabriel (Maryland Eastern Shore) captured two first-place titles in the 100 and 200-meter dashes at the New Captains Classic & Combined Events. She also led Eastern Shore to a pair of season-best times and first-place outings in the 4x100 and mile relays.
Kayla Key (Hampton) logged the top mark in the MEAC after winning first place in the javelin while competing in the heptathlon at the New Captains Classic & Combined Events.
Uchechi Onuoha (Howard) placed third in the 400-meter hurdles at the Larry Ellis Invitational and ran on the third-place mile relay squad which ran its fastest time of the season. She also competed in the 100-meter hurdles and 4x100-meter relay and finished fifth in both events while earning qualification to the IC4A/ECAC Championships in all four events.
