Demek Kemp of South Carolina State and Norfolk State’s Martha Bissah were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Men's and Women’s Track Performers of the Week. Savannah State’s Malik Franklin and Morgan State’s Jailah Mason were named the MEAC Men's and Women's Field Performers of the Week, the conference announced today.

Participating in his first competition since the 2017 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championship, Kemp (Monroe, Ga.) made his presence known immediately as he posted a first-place finish (6.65) in the 60-meter dash at the Keydet Invitational in Lexington, Va. this past weekend. Kemp had to battle through three rounds of action as he finished first in the prelims (6.74) and semifinals (6.68).  He saved his best for last as his winning time of 6.65 is the seventh-fastest time in the nation while second in the MEAC. Kemp also tied the SC State school record.

Franklin (Covington, Ga.) won the triple jump at the Keydet Invitational with a season-best mark of 50-5.5. He overcame adversity during the event as he logged three consecutive fouls before posting the eventual winning-mark. His jump currently ranks 25th nationally and is the second-best mark in the MEAC.

Bissah (Accra, Ghana) had a solid weekend of competition as she won and set a collegiate-best time in the 1,000-meters (2:51.28) for the second consecutive weekend while also finishing second in the 400-meter dash in a personal-best time of 56.74. She also participated on NSU’s mile relay team and helped them post its best time of 2018.

Mason (Sterling Heights, Mich.) won the high jump title at the Terrapin Invitational with a mark of 5-8.5. Mason was the class of the field as her first attempt was at the winning height.
