BALTIMORE, Md.- Two Morgan State track and field student-athletes in Jailah Mason and Joel Roberson will be competing at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, for a spot on the United States Olympic Squad that will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August.
The trials will begin July 1 and conclude on July 10.
Jailah Mason, the 2016 NCAA Indoor first team All-American and second team Outdoor All-American, 2016 ECAC Indoor and Outdoor Champion will compete on Friday July 1, 2016 in High Jump qualifying round. There will also be a final round of the High Jump on Saturday. Mason claimed the gold medal at the MEAC Indoor Championship setting both a new school and MEAC high jump record with a personal best leap of 6'1.25" (1.86m).
Joel Roberson, the 2016 MEAC Outdoor 400m champion and member of the 2016 IC4A Championships Team will compete in the 400m on Friday July 1, 2016. He enters the trials with the 15th fastest time (45.66) in the nation.
The coaching staff and the University are extremely proud of these student athletes' accomplishments during the course of the 2016 season.
"The program has experienced tremendous success during 2016 and to cap it off in this fashion is remarkable for our athletes," said MSU head coach Neville Hodge. Morgan State is the only HBCU (Historically black colleges and universities) to have two athletes competing in the 2016 USATF Olympics Trials.
