Hampton?s Brown and Holloway Gear Up For NCAA Outdoors

EUGENE, Ore. – Hampton University seniors Ce’aira Brown and Trey Holloway will be competing in the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Wednesday through Saturday at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.

Brown will compete in the women’s 800-meter run, and Holloway will run in the men’s 110-meter hurdles.

Brown will be making her second trip to the NCAA outdoor meet, having last qualified for Eugene as a sophomore in 2014. She is also coming off an indoor season that saw her capture First Team All-America honors in the 800-meter run.

She ran a 2:04.90 at the NCAA East Preliminary to qualify for the national meet, and Brown’s season best came in early April, when she ran a school-record 2:02.82 at the Florida Relays.

The last time Brown qualified for NCAAs in the outdoor season, she earned Second Team All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Holloway, meanwhile, will be making his fourth straight trip to Eugene – becoming the first Hampton track athlete to qualify for the national meet in all four seasons. He ran a season-best 13.63 in the NCAA East Preliminary to reach NCAAs.

A First Team All-American honoree earlier this year in the indoor 60-meter hurdles, Holloway is also looking to become the first Pirate to win a national championship at the Div. I level.

He finished third in the 110-meter hurdles as a sophomore two seasons ago.

The women’s 800-meter run semifinals will be held on Thursday at 9:14 p.m. EST, with the final on Saturday at 7:47 p.m. EST. The semifinals of the men’s 110-meter hurdles will be held on Wednesday at 8:32 p.m. EST, with the final on Friday at 9:12 p.m. EST.

Wednesday’s action will be televised on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m. EST, with Thursday’s coverage starting on ESPU at 7:30 p.m. EST and moving to ESPN at 8 p.m. EST. Friday’s TV coverage will begin at 8:30 p.m. EST on ESPN, and Saturday will be broadcast on ESPN starting at 6:30 p.m. EST.
