EUGENE, Ore. – Coppin State senior triple jumper Shane Green competes on the national stage Friday at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Green will jump at 8:30 p.m. eastern time at the University of Oregon’s famed Hayward Field. Action will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Green earned his way into the NCAA Championships with a career-best 15.82 meter effort two weeks ago at the NCAA East Regional. The Kingston, Jamaica native had a breakthrough senior season in the triple jump event breaking his own school record twice.
In late April at the Morgan State Legacy Meet, Green began his climax winning the triple jump with a personal record of 15.62 meters. At his next meet, he smashed his previous mark leaping 15.80 meters at the historical Penn Relays and then kept up the momentum at the 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships taking silver. Continuing his success Green won the 2016 IC4A/ECAC Outdoor men's triple jump crown building momentum for the upcoming national preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla.
Green needs a top-nine prelims finish to push on to the finals. The top-eight finishers earn First-Team All-American status.
