BALTIMORE, Md. - The 2016 NCAA Division I Track and Field East Preliminary Round gets underway at noon today from Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
For the second consecutive year the Lady Bears will be represented by junior Shenel Crooke, who will compete in the 100 meter dash and sophomore Jailah Mason, who will compete in the high jump.
The women's 100-meter dash is scheduled for Thursday, May 26 at 6:30 p.m. Crooke, will run in Lane 2 of Heat 2 during the prelims.
Crooke enters this weekend's NCAA East Preliminary Round currently ranked 42nd in the NCAA. The top three runners of each of the six heats, along with the next six fastest times will advance to the quarterfinals on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Mason will compete in the prelims of the high jump on Friday at 5 p.m. Mason, who enters the competition ranked 12th in the NCAA, will compete in Flight 2 and will be the 19th jumper.
The top 12 overall placers will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon (June 8-11) at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Last season Mason finished the East Preliminary Round tied for first with an unblemished run to punch her ticket to the NCAA Championship. Mason would finish with a jump of 5-11.50 to become the first Lady Bear individual to advance to the NCAA Championship since Allison Randall (discus) in 2010.
Mason would conclude her remarkable freshman campaign with a ninth-place finish at last year's NCAA Championships and earned All-American second team honors.
