NORFOLK, Va. – Former Norfolk State sprinter Chris Brown added to his long list of international medals over the weekend, as he anchored the Bahamian 4x400 meter relay team to a silver medal at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Track & Field Championships in Portland, Ore.
Brown and teammates Michael Mathieu, Alonzo Russell and Shavez Hart set a new national indoor record with their finals time of 3 minutes, 4.75 seconds. The Bahamas finished second behind Team USA, which ran a world-leading time of 3:02.45 to take the gold.
Brown and his countrymen will now focus their attention on outdoor season and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The 2016 Games would be the fifth consecutive Olympics appearance for Brown, who was a two-time Division I All-American at NSU (2000 and ’01) in the 400 meters. Brown has already helped the Bahamas to three Olympic medals in the 4x400 relay, winning gold in London in 2012, silver in Beijing in 2008 and bronze in Sydney in 2000.
Individually, Brown has won five indoor world championship medals in the 400 meters and has placed fourth in that event at each of the last two Summer Olympics.
