SSU's Conner Sets School Record at Tiger Relays

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University men’s and women’s track and field teams continued the outdoor season capturing 15 first place finishes, including a school-record finish in the shot put Saturday at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.

On the men’s field side, Connor Christian recorded a school-record 13.78m in the shot put to win the event beating the previous best of 13.69m, set by Christian last season. 

On the men’s track side, SSU recorded four victories in the 100-meter dash with Justin Leggett’s time of 10.73, Morgan Ellis-Foster’s time of 53.56 in the 400-meter hurdles, the 4x200-meter relay team of Antwuan Poole, Leggett, Donterious Copeland and Nigel Brown’s time of 1:27.12 and the 4x400-meter relay team of Copeland, Brown, Brandon Davis and Malik Franklin’s time of 4:33.70.

On the men’s field side, SSU recorded three other victories with Dolphurs Hayes winning the pole vault with a distance of 4.32 meters, Franklin won the long jump with a distance of 6.69 meters and Derrick Akins won the discus throw with a throw of 46.92 meters.

On the women’s track side, the Lady Tigers recorded four victories with Asia Stinson winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.13, the 4x100-meter relay team of Destiny Hall, Kiana Robinson, Tyneshia Quarterman and Jahmee Reeves’ time of 47.21, the 4x200-meter relay team of Stinson, Robinson, Quarterman, Hall’s time of 1:40.51 and the 4x400-meter relay team of Quarterman, Robinson, Miara Elmore and Reeves’ time of 4:01.68.

On the women’s field side, the Lady Tigers recorded three wins in the pole vault with Kourtney Sizemore’s distance of 2.95 meters, Ravyn Mike’s distance of 5.25 meters in the long jump and Elmore’s distance of 11.49 meters in the triple jump.

On the men’s track side, Brown finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.92, followed by Poole in eighth place with a time of 11.17.  Kevin Todd Woodring led SSU in the 400-meter dash with a third-place finish with a time of 48.63, followed by Houser-Cross’ fourth place finish with a time of 50.51, Elijiah West’s seventh place finish with a time of 52.24 and Randolph Barratt’s 12th place finish with a time of 56.37.

Michael Smith paced the Tigers in the 5,000-meter run with a fourth place finish in a time of 17:17.15, followed by Kenneth Nealy’s sixth place finish with a time of 17:57.89.  Randy Thomas finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.09 and Davis finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.93.

Savannah State’s 4x100-meter relay team of Poole, Leggett, Copeland and Brown finished second with a time of 41.63, while Franklin, Woodring, Thomas and Houser-Cross finished fourth with a time of 43.02.

Savannah State’s 4x200-meter relay team of Franklin, Woodring, Houser-Cross and Thomas finished fourth with a time of 1:30.01, while SSU’s 4x400-meter relay team of Woodring, Leggett, Ellis-Foster and Poole finished second with a time of 4:37.38.

On the men’s field side, Franklin finished third in the high jump with a distance of 1.78 meters, while Copeland finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 5.91 meters and Akins finished second in the shot put with a throw of 11.06 meters.

On the women’s track side, Quarterman finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.26, followed by Robinson’s third place finish with a time of 12.52, while Reeves finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.92.

Savannah State’s 4x100-meter relay team of Stinson, Elmore, Saleema Gadson and Mia McLean finished seventh with a time of 50.71.

On the women’s field side, Alysia Potts finished second with a distance of 2.79 meters, while Elmore finished second in the long jump with a distance of 5.13 meters, followed by Makayla Tam’s 15th place finish with a jump of 4.38 meters and Gadson’s 19th place finish with a distance of 3.75 meters.

Mike finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.75 meters, followed by Tam with a sixth-place finish with a jump of 9.65 meters and Gadson’s eighth place finish with a jump of 9.42 meters.  Chinenya Ofodile finished 12th in the shot put with a throw of 8.47 meters.

Greene Reaches ECAC Qualification In Last Chance

BOSTON, Mass. – Hampton University senior Tanisha Greene was already qualified for the 400-meter dash at next week’s ECAC Indoor Championships, but she set a season-best time on Sunday in the Last Chance Meet to further that.

Greene ran a 53.16 to finish second in the event.

She is also qualified to compete in the 200- and 500-meter dash at the ECAC Championships.

On the men’s side, junior Rayon Black came in fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.39.

Black was also on the 4x400-meter relay team – along with sophomore Gabriel Johnson, freshman Jerrick Powell, and sophomore Stanley Davis – finishing second with a 3:12.12.

In Farifax, Va., senior Ramoye Simon reached IC4A qualification in the 60-meter dash in the George Mason Last Chance Meet, thanks to the 6.92 he ran in the preliminary heats.

He also won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.95.

Junior Donmanique Hardy was sixth in the long jump at 6.86 meters (22 feet, 6.25 inches).

The ECAC and IC4A Indoor Championships will be held in Boston, Mass. this coming Friday through Sunday.
