DANBURY, Conn. — University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) track & field junior Khalil Rmidi Kinini earned recognition by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) as its Division I Indoor Track & Field Men’s Runner of the Week, as announced by the ECAC on Wednesday.
Already named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outstanding Men’s Runner at this past weekend’s MEAC Tournament, the Hawks junior from Spain scored 32.5 of the team’s 103 points as his team took third place. Rmidi Kinini won the mile, 3000 meter and 5000 meter races individually and helped in a four person victory in the distance medley relay. His time in the 3000 meter broke the MEAC Championship record at a clip of 8:30.44, beating a three year old mark.
Rmidi Kinini is the first Hawk track athlete to be honored by the ECAC, but the conference has honored several members of the UMES bowling team.
The Hawks will head to Boston to continue its postseason runs with the Boston Last Chance at the end of February and the IC4A/ECAC Championships in early March.
