MEAC COMPLETES DAY TWO OF INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

LANDOVER, Md. – The Bethune-Cookman men and the Hampton women lead all competitors heading into the final day of the 2016 MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Md.

On the women’s side, Hampton garners 60.33 points through seven events, while Florida A&M is second with 52 points. Coppin State is third with 40 points.

Ce’aira Brown of Hampton broke her own meet record in the 800m, with a time of 2:05.19, breaking the mark by three seconds. Maryland Eastern Shore’s Jennaya Hield and Rachel Halmon finished second and third, respectively, at 2:14.09 and 2:14.44.

Morgan State’s Jailah Mason set a new meet record in the high jump with a leap of 1.86m (6-1.25 ft.) to break the previous mark of 1.85m by Coppin State’s Deandra Daniel in 2015. Daniel placed second at 1.76m (5-9.25 ft.), while Bethune-Cookman’s Quamecha Morrison finished third at 1.73m (5-8.00 ft.).

Bethune-Cookman’s Summer Brown won the pentathlon with 3,407 points. Khemani Roberts of Coppin State placed second with 3,403 points and Kaitlin Scott of Hampton finished third with 3,365 points.

On the men’s side, Bethune-Cookman leads through seven events with 55 points. Maryland Eastern Shore is second with 49.5 points and Hampton is in third with 43 points.

Christian Faber-Kinney of Hampton earned first-place honors in the heptathlon with 4,662 total points. Hampton’s Jerrick Powell finished second with 4,514 points and Donmanique Hardy, also of Hampton, placed third with 4,501 points.

The competition concludes on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m., with the women's shot put, men's and women's pole vault, and the men's and women's triple jump. Running events begin at 1 p.m., with the women's mile run.  Rounding out the afternoon's events will be the men's and women's 4x400m relay race at 3:25 p.m.
