MEAC Announces Men's Indoor Weekly Track & Field Honors

North Carolina A&T State's Corey Aiken earned the first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honor while Norfolk State's Garth Warner was named MEAC Men's Field Performer of the Week.

A senior from Knightdale, N.C., Aiken currently holds the top time in the nation as he finished first in the 800 at the UNCG Early Bird Duals this past weekend. Aiken ran a personal best time of 1:53.86 in the event. He returned to the track as a member of the mile relay and led the Aggies to a first-place finish in a time of 3:19.03, which currently ranks seventh nationally as the time was adjusted to 3:15.91 due to track size.

Freshman Garth Warner started his career off on the right foot as he claimed second place at the Holiday Open hosted by Christopher Newport this past Sunday. Warner, who was the top collegiate finisher in the event, jumped 6-10.75 and currently ranks eighth nationally.

Other Top Performers:

Joel Roberson (Morgan State) won the 400 with an IC4A qualifying time of 48.12. Roberson was also a member of the Bears’ 4x400-meter relay team that posted a time of 3:32.20.

Stanley Davis (Hampton) had a busy weekend as he won three events. Davis won the mile at the JDL College Kickoff along with winning the 600. He was a member of the first-place distance medley relay team at the Holiday Open hosted by Christopher Newport.

Allan Frye (Norfolk State) won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.11 and currently ranks seventh nationally. He also led the Spartans' mile relay team to a first-place victory at the Holiday Open hosted by Christopher Newport.

Alberto Guerrero (Maryland Eastern Shore) was the only runner out of six competitors to eclipse the two-minute mark in the 800 with his time of 1:58.16. Guerrero also ran the third leg of the distance medley relay for the Hawks, helping the four-man team to a first-place finish.

Reginald Young (Maryland Eastern Shore) earned two personal records with his marks of 11.40 meters in the shot put and 14.18 meters in the weight throw. The weight throw mark eclipsed MEAC qualifying standards.

Lasheon Strozier (North Carolina A&T State) won the long jump at the JDL College Kickoff with a jump of 23-1.75. He ranks 18th nationally in the event. 

Martin Owusu-Antwi (Coppin State) won the men's 60-meter dash event with a time of 6.83 seconds and the men's 200-meter dash event at 21.56 seconds. Owusu-Antwi ranks fourth nationally in the 60 and fifth in the 200.

Olujimi Scott (Howard) won the 500 at the UMES Lid-Lifter in a time of 1:04.24.

Matthew Colvin (Howard) won the triple jump at the UMES College Lid-Lifter with a length of 48-10.75 and ranks eighth nationally.
