NCCU Posts 18 Top-5 Performances at Indoor T&F Opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In the indoor track & field season-opener for North Carolina Central University, the men's and women's teams combined for 18 top-5 finishes, including two individual event victories, at the UNCG Early Bird meet on Sunday (Dec. 4) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Twelve NCCU competitors also recorded qualifying standards for the 2017 MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
 
The two event winners for NCCU were sophomore Armond Shaw in the men's high jump with a leap of 2.00 meters and freshman Malcum Tatum in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 49.68 seconds.
 
Runner-up finishes were achieved by senior Deandre James in the men's 800m run with a time of 1:55.58 and freshman Deja Stevenson in the women's triple jump with a distance of 11.50m.
 
In third place were Dominick Lemonious in the 60m hurdles (8.42), Omega Smalls in the high jump (1.95m) and the women's 4x400m relay (4:02.55).
 
After inter break, the NCCU teams will resume competition on Jan. 20 at the Christopher Newport University Captains Invitational.
