NORFOLK, Va. – Xavier Collins of Norfolk State and Trey Holloway of Hampton were named the MEAC Co-Men’s Track Athletes of the Week, while Michael Thomas-Brown of Norfolk State was the MEAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference today. Tiara Robinson of Hampton and Deandra Daniel of Coppin State were chosen as the MEAC Women’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
Collins (r-So., Chesapeake, Va., Sprints) won two events and shared a top four relay finish at the Christopher Newport University Captains Invitational on Jan. 22-23. He won the 200m (22.30), was a part of the winning 4x200 meter relay team in a facility record time of 1:28.70. He also shared a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay team (3:21.70).
Holloway (Sr., Chesapeake, Va., Sprints) broke his own school record in the 60m hurdles, winning at the CNU Invitational, in 7.70. He made the finals with a 7.75 in the prelims.
Thomas-Brown (r-So., Alexandria, Va., Jumps/Sprints) won the long jump at the CNU Invitational, with a leap of 6.78m (22’3 ft.), and was a member of the 4x200 relay team that set a facility record.
Robinson (Fr., Port St. Lucie, Fla., Sprints) had two firsts and a second place showing in the CNU Invitational by winning the 200m (25.37), a member of the winning 4x200 relay team (1:41.30) and a member of the second place 4x400 relay team (3:53.19).
Daniel (Sr., Gasparillo, Trinidad & Tobago, Jumps) finished second overall, but first amongst collegiate competitors, in the high jump at the New York City Gotham Cup, with a leap of 1.75m (5’8.75 ft.).
Other Top Performers:
Melissa Caddle-Hope (CSU) finished eighth overall, with a season-best time of 25.02 in the 200m, at the NYC Gotham Cup.
Haysean Cowie-Clarke (CSU) won his heat and finished tenth, in the 60 meters, at the NYC Gotham Cup in 6.92.
Shane Green (CSU) placed fifth overall and fourth amongst collegiate participants, in the long jump, at the NYC Gotham Cup with a season-best 7.00m (22’11.75 ft.).
Jared Jeter (SCSU) won the 400m at the Emory Crossplex Invitational in a time of 48.65.
Jonathan Jones (DSU) finished third, with a time of 23.07, in the 200m at the CNU Invitational.
Castaysha Lewis (DSU) took third in the triple jump, at the CNU Invitational, in 10.97m (36’0 ft.).
