McCorory takes silver at IAAF World Championships

BEIJING, China – Hampton University graduate and Olympic gold medalist Francena McCorory anchored Team USA’s 4x400-meter relay team at the 2015 IAAF World Championships on Sunday, taking the silver medal.

Team USA ran a 3:19.44, coming in behind Jamaica.

McCorory was the last leg on the relay team, which also featured Sanya Richards-Ross, Natasha Hastings, and Allyson Felix.

“I want to congratulate Francena McCorory on another outstanding performance on the global stage,” University President Dr. William R. Harvey said. “She continues to make Hampton University proud every time she competes against the world's best.”

This marks the third time McCorory has medaled in the IAAF World Championships; she also took silver as part of the 4x400-meter relay squad in Korea in 2013, after winning gold in the same event in 2011 in Daegu.

She was the anchor of the relay team all three times.

McCorory, who won three NCAA championships at Hampton – all in the 400-meter dash – held the best time in the world in that event heading into the IAAF Worlds, thanks to the 49.83 she ran in Monaco back in June.

She also won a gold medal in the 4x400-meter relay in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
