Hampton trio earns All-American Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Three Hampton University track & field student-athletes were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday, as the All-America Teams were announced following the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Senior Chidi Okezie and junior Trey Holloway were each named Second Team All-Americans in the men’s 400-meter dash and 110-meter hurdles, respectively, while senior Le’Quisha Parker was an All-American Honorable Mention in the women’s 200-meter dash.

Forty-two student-athletes have earned All-America recognition during the tenure of Director of Track & Field Maurice Pierce – 12 on the men’s side and 30 on the women’s side.

Okezie ran a 46.52 in the semifinals of the 400-meter dash this past weekend, finishing sixth in his heat race and winding up 13th in the standings after that round. This is the second time the USTFCCCA has given Okezie All-America honors; he was Second Team All-American in the 4x400-meter relay in the 2014 outdoor season.

Holloway was 15th overall after the semifinals of the 110-meter hurdles after turning in a 13.69 in his heat race this past weekend. Holloway was also a First Team All-American during the indoor season in the 60-meter hurdles.

This is the fourth time Holloway has been recognized by the USTFCCCA.

Parker ran a 23.54 in the semifinals of the 200-meter dash, winding up 23rd overall. She was also a Second Team All-American in the 200-meter dash during the indoor season, and this is the fourth time Parker has been recognized by the USTFCCCA.
