GREENWOOD, Ind. – The hard work for UMES senior Dillon Simon has paid off with a place on an Academic All-District Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) earlier today. The teams are also sponsored by Capital One.
Simon earned a District 2 award, related geographically to UMES. He is the second Hawk to receive a district distinction, along with baseball junior Mike Escanilla.
The senior from the Caribbean island of Dominica has been a presence since his arrival in Princess Anne, and not just because of his 6’5”, mid-200’s pound frame. In his final season with the Hawks, Simon secured all four throwing record between the indoor and outdoor season. His personal best in the shot put stands at 19.87 meters and his best discus throw stands at 60.13 meters. Those marks were good enough to allow Simon to compete at the NCAA Preliminaries in Florida next weekend.
Athletes from the U.S. Naval Academy, Penn State, Kentucky, Fairleigh Dickinson, Murray State, Lehigh, Eastern Kentucky, American, Princeton, and Villanova were also acknowledged on the District 2 team.
Voting for the national ballot will commence on June 2nd.
