Hornets Shine in DSU Open in Final Tuneup for MEAC Championships

DOVER, Del. – Hosting its annual event Delaware State Open, the DSU track & field program concluded its final competition Monday afternoon before the MEAC Outdoor Championships, which will begin later this week, with the women tallying 172 points to place first, while the men finished second with 72 points.

On the women’s side, two Hornets placed in the top five in the Shot Put, led by Victoria Wilson finishing second (10.95m). Wilson’s day also included garnering second place honors in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.76m.  Morgan Durham, meanwhile, won the Javelin with a mark of 36.50m, whereas Breana Dunn finished second (26.68m). Other champions included Roselyn Oroyemi (100-Meter Dash - 12.21), Rayanna Relerford (200-Meter Dash – 24.88), Ashley Robinson (800-Meter Run – 2:24.79) and Yasmeen Mighty (Triple Jump - 11.76m)

The Hornet men, on the other hand, saw Sharad Mackey cross the finish line at 21.79 in the 200-Meter Dash to place first, in addition to clocking a 48.87 time to win the 400-Meter Dash.  Michael Cummings, meanwhile, came out on top in the Triple Jump with a mark of 13.24m, as Charles Wulff-Cochrane concluded DSU’s outing by winning the 400-Meter Hurdles with a time of 54.34.

Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will head to Greensboro, N.C. for the 2015 MEAC Outdoor Championships, which will begin this Thursday at 1 p.m. with the men’s decathlon events.  Last season, the DSU women placed 12th (13 points), while the men came in 11th (12 points).
