NSU’s Hines Wins Long Jump at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA - Norfolk State freshman Romero Hines won the college men's long jump title Friday at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
Hines set a new personal best with his top jump of 7.51 meters (24 feet, 7.75 inches) to top the field of 40 competitors.
Also Friday, junior Kiara Howell placed third in the college women's javelin (44.49m, 145-11), one day after setting a new school record en route to a seventh place finish in the discus (48.25m, 158-3).

Savannah State takes part in historic Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA – Savannah State men’s outdoor track and field were led by a freshman this weekend at the historic Penn Relays.
Malik Franklin set a new personal record in the long jump event, finishing in 11th place with a distance of 7.13 meters (23’ 4.75”). Franklin followed that with an eighth place finish in the triple jump, recording a distance of 14.70m (48’ 2.75”).
Elsewhere in the field, Dolphurs Hayes recorded a distance of 4.50m (14.9’) in the pole vault competition to finish 21st.
On the track, senior Cameron Hall ran a 13.94 to finish 11th in the 110m hurdles. In the 400m hurdles, Lemaar Shakir ran a 54.57, finishing 21st.
The relay team of Hall, Justin Leggett, Brandon Davis and Donterious Copeland ran a 1:27.08 in the 4x200m relay, finishing in 13th place. The team of Leggett, Copeland, Hall and Franklin ran a 42.55 in the 4x100m to finish 38th.
The Savannah State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field team continue the season with the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championship, in Greensboro, North Carolina on April 29.
The first Penn Relays was held on April 21, 1895, in conjunction with the University’s Spring Handicap Track and Field Games. It is now the longest uninterrupted collegiate track meet in the country.

Rmidi raises bar at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore Khalil Rmidi Kinini proved that he is not done setting school records in his second season. The holder of six records, Kinini broke his own time in the 3000 meter steeplechase, coming with first at a clip of 9:02.84. His performance was one of many successful performances for the Hawks at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia this past weekend.
The women’s 4x800 relay team of sophomore Rachel Halmon, seniors Shantol Hemley and Margaret Wilmot-Francis and junior Jheniel Kelly earned a season high time of 8:49.64, good for second place. That time went along with a sixth place time of 3:46.19 in the 4x400 ECAC race.
Senior Dillon Simon took home a top ten finish in the shot put with a toss of 18.93 meters. That distance was the third best mark for Simon in the shot put this year.
In the jumps, senior Devin Wynn took home 16th in a field of 45 in the triple with a mark of 14.41 meters. Sophomore Shauntel Lucius also finished 16th in the women’s triple, earning a mark of 11.86 meters.
Freshman Oussama Chouati also joined Rmidi Kinini in the steeplechase, taking home a 15th place finish with a time of 9:29.71.
All of these Hawks and more will venture to Greensboro, N.C. next weekend for the 2015 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The festivities begin on April 30th on the campus of North Carolina A&T State.

Pirates win two relay titles at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA – Relay gold is a big deal at the historic Penn Relays, which were held at Franklin Field this past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and the Hampton University men’s track & field team won two such races.
The Pirates took home gold in the IC4A final of the 4x200-meter relay and the college final of the 4x400-meter relay.
Jasper Savoy, Trey Holloway, Justin Beatty, and Chidi Okezie ran a 1:24.36 in winning the 4x200 IC4A race, after turning in a 1:25.88 – the 11th fastest time – in the heats.
Beatty and Okezie were also on the 4x400 squad – along with Edose Ibadin and Rayon Black – that took college gold with a season-best 3:08.67.
Holloway was also sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a 14.11 – after running a season-best 13.87 in the heats.
Donmanique Hardy was sixth in the college long jump with a mark of 7.26 meters (23 feet, 10 inches).
On the women’s side, Hampton turned in a pair of top-seven finishes in the relay events, finishing seventh in the championship final of both the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay. Tanisha Greene and Le’Quisha Parker were on both squads.
Greene and Parker teamed with Kristian Young and Meshala Morton to run a 46.79 in the 4x100 final, while Greene, Parker, Ce’aira Brown, and Malekah Holland ran a 3:38.88 in the 4x400 final.
The 2015 MEAC Outdoor Championships will be held this coming Friday and Saturday at North Carolina A&T’s Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C. The Lady Pirates are the defending MEAC outdoor champions, as well as the reigning indoor champs.

Coppin State alum Christina Epps win Triple Jump at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA – Christina Epps added another piece of sacred memorabilia to her collection when she won the Olympic Development triple jump at the Penn Relays Saturday afternoon at venerable Franklin Field on the University of Pennsylvania’s campus.
One of Coppin State’s most decorated female athletes in school history, Epps has her sights set on making the USA national squad as a triple jumper and representing her country in the 2016 Olympics. Her effort Saturday was a nice step in that direction as she soared 13.47 meters (44 feet, 2.5 inches) to easily outdistance the field.
In winning the triple jump, Epps secured a sacred gold watch that will bling on her wrist for the rest of her life. Last weekend at Morgan State, Epps jumped a career best 13.83 meters in winning the triple jump at the Legacy Meet.
Inspired by Coppin State's nurturing environment, dedicated coaches and a competitive drive like no other, Epps reached heights of brilliance on and off the track during her career. Now, she’s giving back, working at Coppin State as an Academic Coordinator. Her presence is benefitting Coppin State’s current crop of talented and young jumpers.
Epps was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Woman of the Year and one of the 30 finalists for the 2014 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. During her star-studded career, Epps was an 12-time All-MEAC student-athlete in track and field and a six-time triple jump champion in the conference. She is the current Coppin State triple jump record holder. Her school standard is 13.40 meters (43 feet, 11.75 inches).
Epps was selected as the Coppin State Female Presidents' Eagle Award Winner, Female Athlete of the Year and MVP in track and field for the 2013-14 season. She served as team captain from 2012-2014 and was the SAAC President from 2013-2014.

Relay Team Performances Highlight DSU’s Outing at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA – Competing against a plethora of teams across country in one of the most decorated events of the year, the Delaware State track & field program took part in the Penn Relays, headlined by performances from both the men and women relay squads.
On the women’s side, the team of Sabrina Burrell, Omealla Gordon, Ke’Shaun Davis and Rayanna Relerford placed fourth (3:39.75) in the 4x200 (ECAC), finishing ahead of Wisconsin, UMES and Penn. With this performance, the group qualified for next month’s ECAC Championships in Princeton, N.J.
The Hornet men, meanwhile, saw the team of Jonathon Jones, Alpha Mansaray, Charles Wulff-Cochrane and Sharad Mackey cross the finish line at 3:13.60 in the 4x400-Relay (IC4A) for its best time of the season.
