Coppin State’s Daniel qualifies for NCAA Division I Indoor Championships

BALTIMORE – Coppin State junior high jumper Deandra Daniel (Trinidad & Tobago) is excited to be competing in this weekend’s 2015 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships. The championships will be held March 13 and 14 at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Daniel’s high jump championship event will be Friday, March 13 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

She has enjoyed a season full of highlights and is poised to finish with a flourish. Daniel enters the NCAA championships as one of the favorites to win the national title in the high jump. She has literally raised the bar of excellence in her last three meets, setting a personal best mark each time.

This past weekend at the ECAC Championships, Daniel won the high jump competition with a clearance of 1.87 meters. Last month, she won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) high jump title with a championship record 1.85 meter effort. The meet before that, Daniel cleared 1.83 meters at the Nelson P. Townsend Invitational on Feb. 7.

During the 2014-15 indoor season, Daniel has won every high jump competition she has participated in this season. She also holds the Coppin State outdoor school record of 1.83 meters in the high jump. Last season, Daniel competed at the NCAA Division I Preliminary Outdoor Championship meet in Jacksonville.

A five-time MEAC high-jump champion, Daniel has been named MEAC Field Athlete of the Week twice and ECAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week this season. This is the second consecutive year that Coppin State will have a female athlete competing at the NCAA Championships. Christina Epps participated in the triple jump last season.

ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 13 and 14 starting at 7 p.m. Eastern time. A tape delay of the championship will air Monday, March 23 starting at 7 p.m. Eastern time on ESPNU.
