Relerford, Gordon Leads the Way for DSU in Wake Forest Open
Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Delaware State track & field program concluded the two-day Wake Forest Open Saturday with the duo of junior Rayanna Relerford and freshman Omealla Gordon leading the way for the Hornets.
In the 400-Meter Dash, Relerford took third with a time of 56.23, whereas Gordon placed fourth crossing the finish line at 56.30. The tandem also went on to place in the top 10 in the 200-Meter Dash, led by Gordon finishing fifth (25.03) and Relerford coming in 12th (25.28).
Coming up, the Hornets will take part in the Coppin State Twilight 1 this coming Wednesday in Baltimore, Md.
Coppin State Womens Track Recap
MRYTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Coppin State women’s track and field 4 x 200-meter and 4 x400-relay teams finished among the top six schools at the Coastal Carolina Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational Saturday afternoon at Doug Shaw Stadium.
This was the first meet of the 2015 outdoor season opener for the Lady Eagles.
The Eagles 4 x 200-meter quartet of Alexis Marsh, Camry Torian, Miriam Ekwuru and Tanaya Yarde was fifth in a time of 1 minute, 40.06 seconds. Later in the afternoon, Marsh, Ekwuru and Yarde teamed with Kadeem Curtis to finish sixth (3:52.32) in the 4 x 400-meter relay.
Former Coppin State standout and MEAC Woman of the Year Christina Epps, competing for the adidas Garden State Track Club set, a meet record in winning the long jump (13.13 meters/43 feet, 01.00 inches). The previous meet standard of 13.12 meters was set 10 years ago by Coastal Carolina’s Chasity Johnson.
Coppin State returns to action Wednesday afternoon when it hosts the Coppin Twilight Classic.

Hampton Track Opens Outdoor Slate
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. & RICHMOND, Va. – The Hampton University men’s and women’s track & field teams opened the outdoor season this past weekend, competing in both the Wake Forest Open and the VCU Ram Invitational.
The Lady Pirates won a pair of events at the Wake Forest Open, with junior Tanisha Greene (Virginia Beach, Va.) taking the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.02 and the 4x100-meter relay squad winning gold after turning in a 46.07.
Siobhan Ford-Holland (Chester, Va.) was third in the long jump with a mark of 5.48 meters (17 feet, 11.75 inches).
Sophomore Donmanique Hardy (Lawrenceville, Va.) won the long jump on the men’s side, jumping 7.11 meters (23 feet, 4 inches).
Senior Sulaiman Fareed (Richmond, Va.) came in second in the shot put with a mark of 16.52 meters (54 feet, 2.5 inches).
The Pirates’ 4x100-meter relay squad ran a 41.27 to come in second.
Junior Kaylor Murray (Nashville, Tenn.) gave the Lady Pirates their best finish in the VCU Ram Invitational, coming in fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a 19:06.04. Sophomore Amanda Delacruz (Staten Island, N.Y.) was fifth with a 19:09.18.
Sophomore J’Niyah Knox-Wilson (Hampton, Va.) came in fifth in the 100-meter dash with a 12.34.
On the men’s side, freshman Stanley Davis (Glen Allen, Va.) won the 800-meter run with a 1:55.19.
The Pirates and Lady Pirates will be back in action this Friday and Saturday in the Raleigh Relays.
