Hampton to send four to NCAA Indoors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Four members of the Hampton University men’s and women’s track & field teams will compete in the 2015 NCAA Div. I Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Center.

Senior Edose Ibadin will compete in the men’s 800-meter run, while junior Trey Holloway will run in the men’s 60-meter hurdles. On the women’s side, senior Le’Quisha Parker will run in the 200-meter run, while junior Ce’aira Brown will compete in the 800-meter run.

Ibadin is seeded 14th in the men’s 800-meter run, thanks to the school-record 1:48.19 he ran at the Last Chance Meet on March 1. Holloway’s season-best 7.78 in the 60-meter hurdles came at the Armory Collegiate on Jan. 31, and that time has him seeded 13th.

Holloway is 11th in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles; Ibadin is 16th nationally in the 800-meter run.

Ibadin won the MEAC title in the 800-meter run this season, and Holloway was a Second Team All-MEAC honoree in the 60-meter hurdles.

Holloway has yet to find national success during the indoor season, but he was a First Team All-American last year in the outdoor 110-meter hurdles.

The Pirates have not had an indoor All-American since 1991.

Parker is seeded ninth in the women’s 200-meter dash, thanks to the school-record 23.33 she ran at the Scarlet & White Invitational on Feb. 7. Brown’s school-record 2:04.80 in the 800-meter run – which she recorded at the Last Chance Meet on March 1 – has her seeded 14th.

Parker is 12th in the nation in the 200-meter run, while Brown is 13th in the 800-meter run.

Parker won the MEAC title in the 200-meter dash last month, and Brown took gold in the 800-meter run.

Both Parker and Brown are looking to continue the national success they enjoyed in last year’s outdoor season; Brown was a Second Team All-America honoree in the outdoor 800-meter run last season, and Parker earned Honorable Mention accolades in the outdoor 200-meter dash.

The men’s 60-meter hurdles will kick off on Friday with the semifinal heats at 6:45 p.m. local time; the finals will be held on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. local time. The men’s 800-meter run semifinals will be held on Friday at 7:55 p.m. local time, with the finals on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. local time.
