LANDOVER, Md. – The North Carolina A&T State men and the Bethune-Cookman women lead all competitors heading into the final day of the 2015 MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Md.
On the women’s side, Bethune-Cookman garners 47.5 points through seven events, while North Carolina A&T State is second with 36 points. Morgan State and Maryland Eastern Shore are tied for third with 35 points.
Coppin State’s Deandre Daniel set a new meet record in the high jump with a leap of 1.85m (6-00.75 ft.) to break the previous mark of 1.78m by Hampton’s Yvette Lewis in 2005. Qizeah Jackson of North Carolina A&T State placed second at 1.70m (5-07.00 ft.), while North Carolina Central’s Sherhae Holloway and Bethune-Cookman’s Kasie Trigg finished tied for third at 1.70m (5-07.00 ft.).
Deidra Jordan of Bethune-Cookman won the pentathlon with 3,623 points. Howard’s Hanah Billups placed second with 3,490 points and Reneazia Collins of North Carolina A&T State finished third with 3,262 points.
On the men’s side, North Carolina A&T State lead through seven events with 56 points. Bethune-Cookman is second with 52.5 points and Maryland Eastern Shore is in third with 50 points.
Hampton’s Edose Ibadin became the new record holder in the 800m, with a time of 1:51.35, breaking the previous mark (1:51.59) held by Delaware State’s Donte Holmes in 2009. Troy Pollard of Florida A&M finished second, with a time of 1:53.12, and Bethune-Cookman’s Ricy Brown placed third in 1:53.79.
Todd Townsend of North Carolina A&T State earned first-place honors in the heptathlon with 4,812 total points. Bethune-Cookman’s Nnamdi Davis finished second with 4,725 points and Hampton’s Christian Kinney placed third with 4,695 points.
The competition concludes on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m., with the women's shot put, men's and women's pole vault, and the men's and women's triple jump. Running events begin at 1 p.m., with the women's mile run. Rounding out the afternoon's events will be the men's and women's 4x400m relay race at 3:25 p.m.
