Hampton releases 2015-16 track and field schedule

HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University track & field program has released its 2015-16 indoor and outdoor schedules for the coming season, with the school playing host to one indoor meet and one outdoor meet.

Both teams will be in Newport News, Va. on Dec. 5 for the CNU Holiday Open, while select members of the men’s team will be in Annapolis, Md. for the Navy Invitational on the same day.

From there, both teams will be off until after the New Year, at which point they will travel to Fairfax, Va. to compete in the Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason.

Hampton will then host the Hampton University Tri-Meet on Jan. 13 at the Boo Williams SportsPlex – a meet in which Norfolk State and VCU will compete. From there, the Pirates and Lady Pirates will compete in another meet at CNU, the Captain’s Invitational on Jan. 22-23.

On Jan. 29-30, the teams will be competing in simultaneous meets, the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Mass. And the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty, before heading to New York, N.Y. for the Armory Track Invitational.

Some Hampton athletes will compete in the Vince Brown Invite hosted by CNU on Feb. 5-6.

The 2016 MEAC Indoor Championships will be held Feb. 11-13 in Landover, Md. The Lady Pirates are the defending MEAC indoor champions and have won each of the last five such titles.

The Last Chance Meet is on Feb. 28 in Boston, Mass., before both teams return to Beantown on March 4-6 for the IC4A and ECAC Indoor Championships.


The 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships will be in Birmingham, Ala. on March 11-12.

The outdoor season will kick off on March 18-19 with the Wake Forest Open, while select athletes will be in Richmond, Va. on March 19 for the VCU Ram Invitational. March 25-26 will see Hampton compete in both the Raleigh Relays and the Fred Hardy Invitational.

On April 1-2, Hampton will compete in both the Florida Relays, hosted by the University of Florida, and the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary.

The Mason Invitational will be held in Fairfax, Va. on April 9.

On April 15-16, Hampton will play host to the historic Hampton Relays at Armstrong Stadium for the second straight year. Following that, both teams will head to Baltimore, Md. on April 22-23 for the Morgan State Legacy Meet.

The historic Penn Relays will be held in Philadelphia, Pa. on April 28-30.

Greensboro, N.C. will once again be the site of the MEAC Outdoor Championships, which will be held May 5-7. After that, Hampton will be in Princeton, N.J. on May 16-17 for the IC4A and ECAC Outdoor Championships.

The NCAA East Preliminary will again be in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 28-30.


The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be in Eugene, Ore. on June 11-13.

Other meets in which Hampton athletes could compete in 2015-16 include the U.S. Indoor Championships (March 11-12) and World Indoor Championships (March 17-20), both of which will be in Portland, Ore., and the U.S. Olympic Trials, which will be held in Eugene, Ore. on July 1-10.
