CSU's Daniel selected to compete at Commonwealth Games

BALTIMORE, Md. – Coppin State sophomore Deandra Daniel was named to the Trinidad and Tobago Commonwealth Games Association (TTCGA)/Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) national team that will compete in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games from July 23-August 3 in Scotland, England.

One of 21 women from her native country selected, Daniel will participate in the high jump on Friday, August 1.

Daniel enjoyed an outstanding year for the Eagles. She competed in the NCAA Division I Track and Field Outdoor Preliminary Championships in Jacksonville. Daniel soared a school record 1.83 meters in winning the high jump at the Morgan State Legacy Meet on April 18.

She won the MEAC indoor and outdoor high jump championships for the second straight year. Her effort of 1.82 meters at the outdoor championship meet was a meet record. Daniel, who was named MEAC Field Athlete of the Week on April 25, was second in the high jump at the ECAC/IC4A championship meet.

Also during this past outdoor season, Daniel set a meet record in the high jump at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Classic by clearing 1.75 meters. A week later, Daniel won the high jump at the Baskin-Weems Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina.

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will bring together thousands of elite athletes, friendly volunteers and excited spectators to join an incredible festival of sport and culture.
