NEW ORLEANS – All eight student-athletes who competed in the NCAA Championships this past weekend were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), led by First Team All-American Trey Holloway.
The sophomore Holloway earned that status with his eighth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles this past weekend – this after he turned in his season-best 13.70 in the preliminary heats. He is the first Pirate to earn First Team honors (the USTFCCCA first divided All-Americans into teams in 2010-11).
Holloway was an Honorable Mention All-American in the 110-meter hurdles last season.
Senior Je’Von Hutchison, junior Edose Ibadin, graduate student Paris Reddick-Simmons, and junior Chidi Okezie were each named Second Team All-Americans in the 4x400-meter relay.
Hutchison was named Honorable Mention in the 400-meter dash.
Senior Stefano Nardini also racked up Honorable Mention accolades from the USTFCCCA for his performance in the javelin throw this past weekend.
On the women’s side, sophomore Ce’aira Brown was named Second Team All-American in the 800-meter run, thanks to the 2:05.01 she ran in the preliminary heats that placed her third in her race.
Junior Le’Quisha Parker picked up Honorable Mention honors in the 200-meter dash for the second straight year.
She was also an Honorable Mention honoree in the 4x400-meter relay last season.
First-Team All-America honors were awarded to those who finished among the top eight in an individual or relay event as part of a team; Second-Team All-America honors went to those who finished between ninth and 16th.
Honorable Mention honors were given to the remaining finishers.
On the Division I level, the Pirates now have 14 combined All-America and Honorable Mention honorees. The Lady Pirates have 26 combined honorees in that same span.
