EUGENE, Ore. – Christina Epps concluded her season in the triple jump at the NCAA Division I Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships by leaping 12.74 meters (41 feet, 9.75 inches) Friday afternoon at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.
Despite finishing 14th overall in the event, Epps still enjoyed a memorable senior season. It will be one that will be discussed for quite some time on North Avenue. Her performances during a year that featured many outstanding feats will be the standard by which future female student-athletes will be judged by at Coppin State.
Two weeks ago at the NCAA Division I East Regional Preliminary Championships, Epps enjoyed a personal best effort of 13.40 meters (43 feet, 11.75 inches). It’s a school record that could stand for a long time.
In addition to setting school records in both the indoor and outdoor triple jumps, Epps won the MEAC and ECAC championships in both events, earned indoor All-American honors after finishing seventh at the NCAA Championships and finished sixth at the U.S. Senior National Championships.
In addition, Epps was named the Coppin State Female Student-Athlete of the Year and winner of the President’s Eagle Female Athlete of the Year. She has a year remaining in graduate school before beginning her career as a sports psychologist.
San Diego State’s Shanieka Thomas won the national title in the event with an effort of 14.00 meters (45-11.75).
