Hampton competes in Florida, Colonial Relays

HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in a pair of meets this past weekend, taking part in the Florida Relays at the Percy Beard Track and the Colonial Relays at the College of William & Mary.

In the Florida Relays, the Pirates came in second in the sprint medley with a season-best time of 3:20.85, while the Lady Pirates came in third in the women’s sprint medley after turning in a season-best 3:47.18.

Junior Edose Ibadin turned in the best individual result of the weekend for the Pirates at the Florida Relays, coming in eighth in the 800-meter run after turning in a school-record 1:49.03 – beating his own record by .31 seconds.

Senior Je’Von Hutchison ran a season-best 46.53 in the 400-meter dash, coming in 13th.

Sophomore Ce’aira Brown turned in the Lady Pirates’ best individual effort in Florida, running a 2:08.07 to come in ninth in the 800-meter run.

Senior Breana Norman ran a 13.56, a season best, in the 100-meter hurdles to come in 15th. Her 11.65 in the 100-meter dash was also a season best.

Senior Malekah Holland also set a season-best mark in the 400-meter dash after running a 55.49, and the Lady Pirates 4x100-meter relay squad came in 10th after running a season-best 44.96.

The Lady Pirates also set season bests in the 4x200-meter relay (1:37.64) and the 4x400-meter relay (3:39.62).

Senior Ashley Armand turned in the Lady Pirates’ best individual effort at the Colonial Relays, coming in third in the 1,500-meter run with a 4:48.16. Senior Emmy Fraenk turned in a 56.12 in the 400-meter dash to come in fifth.

Fraenk was also on the 4x200-meter relay team – along with freshman J’Niyah Knox-Wilson, sophomore Jenira Shufford, and sophomore Maya Moore – that came in third with a 1:39.78.

Armand anchored the sprint medley squad that came in fifth with a 4:06.63; she ran that race along with Knox-Wilson, Shufford, and Moore.

The Lady Pirates wound up tied for 24th in the team standings.

The Pirates were 27th in the team standings on the men’s side, and senior Stefano Nardini turned in the best individual performance of the weekend in Williamsburg, Va., coming in fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of 65.95 meters (216 feet, four inches).

Freshman Donmanique Hardy came in fifth in the long jump with a season-best mark of 6.56 meters (21 feet, 6.25 inches).

Junior Sulaiman Fareed came in sixth in the discus with a mark of 39.99 meters (131 feet, two inches), before tossing the shot put 15.54 meters (51 feet) to come in seventh.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will be in Greensboro, N.C. on Saturday for the Aggie Invitational.

Men Finish Ninth, Women Take 32nd in Colonial Relays Over Weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Over the weekend, the Delaware State track & field program took part in the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary, with the men finishing ninth out of 40 teams and the women placing 32nd out of 38 squads.

In the case of the men, the combination of Stephen Bowe, Joseph Crenshaw, Simon Reid and Sharad Mackey beat out Bucknell with a time of 1:28.06 to win the 4x200-Meter Relay, whereas James Peteet, Alpha Mansaray, David Okeke and Jordan Wilson placed fourth (1:30.30) in the event.

Bowe and Crenshaw, meanwhile, along with the help of Charles Wulff-Cochrane and Nathaniel Tucker, took third (3:14.86) in the 4x400-Meter Relay   

On the other hand, the foursome of Chalsea Clark, Shi’erra Hilliard, Beatrice Wolo and Ketsia Dornevil crossed the finish line in fourth place (4:05.75) in the 1600-Meter Sprint Distance Medley to headline all notable performances for the DSU women.

Coming up next, the Hornets will compete in the Delaware Open this Saturday, hosted by the UD Blue Hens.

Savannah State Runs In Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Savannah State men’s shuttle hurdle relay team led the Tigers at the annual Florida Relays this past weekend.

SSU’s Felton Chinn, Cameron Hall, Lemaar Shakir, and Randy Thomas ran a 58.56 to finish in fifth place in the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle relay.

The same SSU team garnered the program’s first relay win at the historic Penn Relays in April of 2013, with a time of 58.07 in the shuttle hurdle event.

In the 4x200 relay on Saturday, the team of Kenshard Hamilton, Justin Leggett, Hall, and Shakir finished in ninth place with a time of 1:24.78. The same team ran a 40.76 in the 4x100 relay for a 19th place finish.

The team of DeAndre Persons, Brandon Davis, Shakir, and Kristopher Ballou ran a 3:16.56 in the 4x400 meter relay, placing 46th.

Hamilton ran a 10.52 in the 100 meter dash finishing 30th, while Hall finished 21st in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.07.

The Lady Tiger team of Asia Stinson, Shakira Bartley, Aluntrea Davis, and Kortney Grey finished the 4x100 relay with a time of 46.43. The same team ran a 1:41.38 in the 4x200 relay.

Stinson ran an 11.68 in the 100 meter dash, finishing in 25th place.

The Savannah State outdoor track and field teams return to action on April 9 at the University of South Carolina Invitational.

Lady Bears’ Relay Teams Set Season-Bests At 2014 Pepsi Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Morgan State women’s outdoor track and field team closed out the 2014 Pepsi Florida Relays on Saturday with three relay events at Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium on the campus of the University of Florida.

The Lady Bears’ 4X100 meter relay team ran a season-best time of 46.33 to finish 35th, while the 4X400 meter relay team also set a season-best time on Saturday, finishing 24th with a time of 3:42.23. The 4X200 meter relay squad placed 16th with a time of 1:38.11.

On Friday, Ishakeema Swain broke the school record in the 1500m with her time of 4:38.54 to place 32nd.

Morgan State will return to the track this Friday, April 11 at the Coppin Open, and will then travel to Fairfax, Va. on Saturday, April 12 to participate in the George Mason Open.
