MEAC Announces Weekly Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton’s Chidi Okezie and Breana Norman were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Track Athletes of the Week. Hampton’s Stefano Nardini and Coppin State’s Christina Epps were named the MEAC Men’s and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Okezie (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa.) ran in four events at the Raleigh Relays, including a first-place finish in the 200m and a member of the sprint medley relay team. Okezie ranks 36th in the 200m nationally and also competed on the 4x400 and 4x100 teams last weekend.   

Norman (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) competed in five events at the Raleigh Relays, helping her 4x100 and sprint medley relay teams to first-place finishes. She competed individually in the 100m and 100h, placing in the top seven for both.

Nardini (Sr., Milan, Italy) won the javelin, with a mark of 72.01 meters (236’3” ft.), at the Raleigh Relays. Nardini broke his own school record in the javelin and ranks eighth in the nation. 

Epps (Sr., Morristown, N.J.) won the long jump and placed second in the triple jump in her first outdoor meet of the season. She currently has the top mark in the triple jump in the MEAC at 12.73 meters (41-08.75 ft.). Epps also made MEAC qualifying standards in the long and triple jump.

 

Other Top Performers:

Deandra Daniel (CSU) won the high jump at the Weems Baskin Invitational, with a leap of 1.76m (5-09.25 ft.).

Gayon Evans (UMES) placed fourth in the 100m, with a time of 11.7, at the Raleigh Relays.

Jessica Farr (NCAT) placed eighth in the 100m, with a time of 11.9, at the Raleigh Relays.

Sherri Owens (NCAT) moved to second in the MEAC in the hammer throw and 10th in the javelin throw.

Dillon Simon (UMES) qualified for the IC4As in the shot put and discus after finishing second and fifth at the Raleigh Relays.

Keenan Smith (NCAT) finished second in the triple jump at the Raleigh Relays.

Wallace Spencer (Howard) competed in five events at the Raleigh Relays, including a top-five finish in the 110 hurdles.   

Todd Townsend (NCAT) competed in the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles at the Raleigh Relays.
